It's not a hoax but its not accurate either...nor is it new.
In 2011 the SC ruled that generic drug manufacturers could not be sued under "failure to warn" laws. This makes sense because generic manufacturers are required to use the same formula and warning labels as the original manufacturer. Can't sue em for following the law. The recent decision upheld the 2011 ruling.
However, this has also changed for the better in recent days as the FDA announced they will now allow generic manufacturers to change warnings if they become aware of a problem with the drug. This now puts the burden back on them and they will be subject to lawsuit again.

If one reads the printed inserts provided with prescription drugs, they list so many possible side effects that the question would arise -- which would be worse, the drug or the condition it's supposed to treat? JMHO.

JMHO. You mean like those warnings on anti-depression drugs that list suicide as side effects? I listen to some of those drug ads and the list of side effects are ten times longer than the list of symptoms that may or may not be relieved BS.gif

The USod A is the land of the law suit... even beer can give you diarrhea... are beer manufacturers supposed to put thar on the label... or hiccups or a hangover??
I worked for one of the major US Drug ccompanies and can tell you that yes, the finer the drug, the better the product.. Mixing the formulas becomes a sort of art and the drug should be homogeneous per lot, per bottle and per pill. QC in major drug companies is ... when they affect your breformance a bi#ch, but it is necessary.
Generic companies are slightly diffferent. They put the active ingredients in a mix that should mimic the products of the big names. Their QC is not as good. They just have to pass the requirements...to the USD requirements but not to anything more stringent than that.
Also, big company products are very well designed, to liberate the active under the correct conditions.
Most of the time the cheapos do not have the correct excipients, nor the right coverings.
I sincerely doubt that woman lost her face because of the medication. I got a bad reaction once and I went to the hospital immediately and got fixed up.
One should also note that people do not take meds as they are prescribed... many times they forget and then take a double or triple dose...
I crack up when the newer drugs are advertisedon TV, it is like me offering the hand of my sister (which I do not have) in marriage ad tell you how beautiful she is and then before the advertisement is over... one of those fasst talking announcers tell you the kind of $#%?=)=(&$" idiot she is and her sexual habits and the like. Pure nonsense.
Hey,...watit now I remembered I did not take my B12 this morning.

I believe the comprehensive listing of possible side effects is a requirement in exchange for the allowance of commercial advertising. Its all about making informed decisions and weighing cost and benefit.
