Dear sir,
Would there be any numeric way to confirm a watch is an SKX169, instead of an SKX171.
In know someone who has what he calls an SKX171, but he says the dial is dark blue.
He sent me a poor picture and it looks like the dial text is the same as my SKX171s (7S26- 113R R 2), and all the case back information seems identical as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not really, the casebacks for those are identical. SEIKO just change the dial and inner dial ring. Dear sir, Would there be any numeric way to confirm a watch is an SKX169, instead of an SKX171. Would any SKX dial fit any other SKX?
All the same outer diameter?

Should. They all go in a common format case. The dials work out to $65 Australian Pesos ($47 US), and I think even if you hated it you could re-sell it in a flash. Would any SKX dial fit any other SKX? All the same outer diameter?

Perhaps I was not clear, I imagine the case-back model number is the same, but would the dial text be identical at the bottom of the dial? His "dark blue" dial seems to have the same dial text as my black dials do, "7S26- 113R R 2". Doesn't Seiko change the dial text to distinguish models with the same case-back model? Perhaps not for just colors? I don't know. What do you think? Also can you get the dial and the inner dial ring in the dark blue? :-D I could make my own SKX169!! :-) - Thomas

The dial text seems to chop and change a bit and I'm not sure of the system SEIKO use, besides the K and J designations. I think it depends on the revision of the dial along with the intended market, so the numbers reflect both. Just had a look for the SKX169. Dial has just changed to discontinued. Bastards. But the SKX171 is easily available. Not really, the casebacks for those are identical. SEIKO just change the dial and inner dial ring. I've always felt the chrome outlined indices made the divers "dressier".

Would any SKX dial fit any other SKX? All the same outer diameter? You can throw those in any 7S26 case. The 6309 divers dial you had to grind the chapter ring tab off of and there was at least 1 that was actually larger than the standard 40 year running Seiko dial diameter (I know cuz I have a busted MOD project sitting 4 years now cuz of the diameter )

Just reviving this thread. Are you still able to obtain the SKX401 dial?

Gone unfortunately. I got 1 and then it was discontinued forever amen. I've just worked out I can probably obtain some of the more bizarre SKX variation dials. If anyone is interested send me a PM. They have to come from Japan, so lead time is 6-8 weeks. I can also get bog standard genuine OEM SKX dials, 007 and 009. Here's some I can get - SKX399SKX401 -SKX169 -
