It seems we are either one or the other.....
Is anybody completely indifferent on the matter and has no preference either way?

I have several quartz watches, in fact I'm wearing one today, but most of the time I wear mechanical watches.

I do love a 7Ax8 Quartz. And I’m wearing an Arnie right now. I just like the watches that make me happy.

Do you think our Sushi community is more appreciative of Quartz?

Out of my 12 Seikos 9 are mechanical, with one being Digital, one Solar (technically quartz), and this lowly quartz.

At one point I challenged myself to own an example of all the major movement types. I’m missing mechanical Chrono- have auto. Stepper motor Spring drive High frequency Quartz.
I probably have a fairly even split of Quartz and mechanical. Each has a place on my wrist in regular rotation.

By far the bulk of my collection is mechanical but I’ve a good smattering of quartz as well. I prefer working on mechanical as I haven’t got a bloody clue about servicing quartz movements whereas at least I’ve got an inkling as to how to service a mechanical movement (even if the results are sometimes variable...)
I like quartz for the fact I can just grab one and strap it on, and since I’m now not paying £3 a time for a battery change they’re even more appealing!

Do you think our Sushi community is more appreciative of Quartz? Some quartz, yes, but by no means all. As with all watches, it’s down to personal preference but there’s certainly more love for some calibres and marques than others.

I like to think that I would wear a quartz watch more often if there were quartz models of the 6309-7290, 702-7000, 7002-7039 or the SKX173. However when I do wear one of my Casio, Timex, etc submariner style quartz watches, they almost always last only a few hours on my wrist.
I know that many feel there is no soul in a quartz module but that is mostly because (with a very few exceptions) quartz always moves the seconds hand in 1 second steps and this pause is too long for us because our own hearts beat faster than this. Subliminally we get better synchronicity with mechanical watches that beat fast enough that we can't sense any pauses.
That being said, I would love to own a Seiko 5s21 watch. Quartz and 5 beats per second(eq to 18,000bph).

I had to vote for both, I have a deep fascination of mechanical watches and prefer them to work on, on the other hand I almost always wear a quartz, I like the grab and go simplicity of the quartz, I think of wearing a mechanical and the thought of getting it going, setting the time and calendar and I grab a quartz.
Another aspect who today can afford a (new) mechanical chronograph? I know I can't but I can have a choice of different styles of chrono in quartz, and you can purchase one for less than $10.

As a child and young adult I wore quartz. For many years after that mechanical watches were all I wore. Now, I almost exclusively wear quartz again. Not sure why?
1984-2002 = quartz
2002-2015 = mechanical
2015-now = quartz
I appreciate them both.

Do you think our Sushi community is more appreciative of Quartz? Probably, but who could blame us? Seiko gave us some awesome examples. I got my hands on a proper lathe for the first time in Jr high. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do from that point... I've always love mechanical stuff. I've always been fasinated by the tiny machining involved but didn't catch the watch bug bad until a couple years ago inside a broken Timex self winder (still in pieces in a jar). One thing led to another and another and I discovered the 7a28... Nothing short of incredible! And the the 7548....... Somewhere in there I found a few elecro-balance wheel type movements. Things thing are sweet! I've gotten one working ladies Accutron. Looking forward to to a nice one someday. But most are ugly and the others are pricey. And talk about a lot to learn. I still prefer an automatic. Love that sweep! I've learned to appreciate the "symbiotic relationship" with them. They come alive only when you give them attention then softly go to sleep and wait for your return. Quartz on the other hand just ticks away in the box...they don't really need me 😞

My God Peter! Get thee to a 7548-7000 post haste! It is a Quartz diver for the ages. It is one of my favorite watches and just ticks all the boxes.
