OFFICIAL WristSushi 10th Anniversary Contest Planning Thread

I had to call it a "Contest" in the title as Challenge had more letters in it and you only get some many

So now back to calling it what it will be this time: a Challenge.

Those that have been around long enough know about the Anniversary Contests and the great prizes and the fun participating and / or reading along with everyone else's adventures.

Those that haven't been around for more than 4 years will not know what I am talking about as it seems 2018 was the last one.

The October Daily Watch Theme last year was a preseason warmup game.

The Challenge will be the same as 2017 and 2018 just with less Contest easy "gimme" places and objects.

A watch that meets the theme criteria same as the October Daily themes.

The watch must be worn at a certain place.

You must have a certain object with you.

One example would be wear a pink dialed watch in a flower store with a machete in your hand.

So if anyone has any suggestions for a person / place/ thing you want to see in one of the Challenges or a type of watch or watch features throw them out here.

Also looking members who want to donate anything they have sitting around for prizes.

Scoring And Prize Selection

Each theme has the potential to earn 3 points. 1 point for the watch portion, 1 point for the required background, and 1 point for the object.

There will be 2 "contests": the Grand Prize contest and the raffle drawing contest.

The Grand Prize will be awarded to the member who completes the most themes. In the event of a tie there will be a tie breaker to be determined before the Challenge starts. The winner will get first pic from all of the prizes offered. There will be no additional prizes draft pick style going down the list of runners up. Only one winner and only one prize for this contest.

The second contest will be a raffle drawing. You get one entry for every point that you earned. There will be 3 points possible for each day of the contest, 3 X number of days chances to win a prize. The first member picked gets their choice of one of the remaining prices. The second member picked gets the next draft pick and so one down the line. Only one prize per member. If you won the Grand Prize contest or your name was already picked you do not get to go again even if one of your entries is chosen later on. Better odds = more chances at a prize = happier participants.



Bonus Points

You can earn one additional entry in the raffle contest drawing for each of the bonus point themes below.

Post a Youtube video on a topic to be determined before the Challenge starts and mention the Wrist Sushi Forum in the video or have www.wristsushi.com written on a piece of paper visible in the background or next to the item if it is sitting on a table.

The day before the Challenge officially starts will be prequel day. "Wear a watch that no one else on the forum owns" Choose your own background. The watch must be a stock Seiko. No MOD'd watches. The watch must show the correct date. If no one else posts the same watch as you during the contest you get a bonus point. If someone else has the same watch as you and posts it during the contest they get a bonus point and you lose your bonus point. If you are going for the steal by showing the same watch post the name of the member you are stealing from. Your watch must show the correct date when you post it. The strap or bracelet does not need to be the same on both watches. You can earn one bonus point for posting a unique watch and another point if you steal by posting the same unique watch as someone else.

Prizes.

If anyone has anything to donate post it in the thread and HiBeat has volunteered to collect and disperse them.

I am donating a 6309-704X diver and an SKX173 dress diver.

Saldog and Inboost have volunteered their services to get them fixed back up.

Are the dates again in June / July and running for 10 days?

This whole go somewhere with your watch will be interesting...  I wasn't around for the last ones, and haven't read through how that went - but I would suggest places / objects that anyone could reasonably find. 

Some ideas of places that could work anywhere:

 - Welcome to [City Name] Sign
 - City Capitol Building
 - Fire Station
 - Alcohol Isle at your grocery store
 - Next to a fire hydrant
 - Next to a body of water (river, lake, pond, ocean, swimming pool etc)
 - In mirror selfie - with eyes/mug masked
 - Watching a sporting event on TV (or live)
 - With previous WRUW post wearing the same watch!
 - In front of a public restroom
 - At gas pump or electric charger
 - In front of a security camera

Some objects ideas: 

 - With a piece of tech from the same decade
 - With another identical watch - doppelgänger!
 - With at least 5oz of silver, 1oz of gold
 - With your alcohol of choice
 - With your pet, or someone else's
 - With your most expensive Covid Mask

2016 2 part points were:

1: Gold plated watch that has a brassed case (corroded / rotted through if you didn't know what brassed means)
A: Rusty automobile

2: Your most expensive watch
B: A burned down, boarded up, are abandoned building preferably in a low rent area (to add to the excitement of getting your most expensive watch jacked off your wrist )

3: Your summer watch
C: Wild animal (rabbit in you garden, bird on the phone wire, squirrel chewing on your electric box) NO PETS. If you can't find a wild animal just wash your car and a bird will be along shortly afterwards to shit on it (don't ask me how I know )

4: Your cheapest watch
D: Public transportation (bus, train, subway) Uber, Lyft, Taxi 420, etc don't count. You don't actually have to ride it with the poor people just get a shot of one in the background.

5: A watch 36mm or under
E: A big truck. Not a lifted redneck pickup truck but a semi truck, a box truck, a fire truck, a flat bed, big rig wrecker, etc.

6: A watch with a cluttered dial (6 lines of text, hard to read because of all of the hands and subdials and logos, etc)
F: A big public statue. The ones you find in the town square, not the lawn gnome in your neighbors garden. If you live next door to Stonehenge than that would count.

7: Advertising watch with a company name or logo.
G: The product of the company represented on your watch

8: Tool watch
H: The environment the tool watch was meant to be in. Divers watches under water, Speedmaster moon watch in outerspace, etc.

9: Buy a new watch before the contest starts
I: Wear it to a new car dealership

10: A watch with only 2 hands
J: A Clock tower

11: Try on a watch that costs over US$1,000
K: The jewelry store you are trying it on at. Who is brave enough to take a picture in the store of a watch that isn;t your in front of the sales clerk and then have to explain what you are doing

12: Wear the same watch as a coworker. You can supply your coworker with one of your watches if you have 2 that are the same model.
L: Your workplace.

13: Exotic animal hide strap. Genuine alligator, crocodile, lizard, turtle, snake, etc. No faux leather patterns.
M: The zoo that has the same animal as your strap. You don't have to go into the zoo but get a picture of the sign in the background. A bird sanctuary counts if you wear an ostrich strap. You can wear a basic leather strap if you have a live cow in the background.

14: Orange dial watch. That new safety fluorescent green would count as well if you can find a dial that color.
N: A construction site

15: A watch with the same colors as your beer (3 color minimum) Watch strap counts as a color
O: The matching beer bottle or can label.

2017 3 part points were:

1: A stainless steel watch
A: A Rusty automobile
I: A pocket knife (since no one wanted the Pulsar watch but the pocket knives were in high demand)

2: Your most expensive watch
B: A burned down, boarded up, or abandoned building preferably in a low rent area (to add to the excitement of getting your most expensive watch jacked off your wrist )
II: The smallest (lowest value) denomination coin or currency your country currently puts into circulation

3: Your summer watch
C: Wild animal (rabbit in your garden, bird on the phone wire, squirrel chewing on your electric box) NO PETS. If you can't find a wild animal just wash your car and a bird will be along shortly afterwards to shit on it (don't ask me how I know )
III: An animal collar

4: Your cheapest watch
D: Public transportation (bus, train, subway) Uber, Lyft, Taxi 420, etc don't count. You don't actually have to ride it with the poor people just get a shot of one in the background.
IV: The largest (highest value) denomination currency your country currently puts into circulation (to add to the excitement of getting your cash jacked by the hobos and poor people )

5: A big watch 42mm or over
E: A sub sub compact car like those stupid Smart cars here or just about every car in Europe unless you’re Jonas and drive a Bentley
V: A spoon

6: A watch with 2 hands (can be 3 hands if the motorcycle has a sidecar or is a trike or one of those “so called” motorcycles like the Can Am Spyder or other brands version)
F: A motorcycle
VI: A mitten (can be a glove if the motorcycle has a sidecar or is a trike or one of those “so called” motorcycles like the Can Am Spyder and other brands) Anyone see the connection?

7: Advertising watch with a company name or logo.
G: The store that sells the company’s products
VII: The product of the company represented on your watch

8: A Tool watch
H: The environment the tool watch was meant to be in. Divers watches under water, Speedmaster moon watch in outerspace, etc.
VIII: A tool related to the environment. If you’re at a new home construction site then show a saw or a hammer. If you are at a lake or dive site show a spear gun.

9: Buy a new watch before the contest starts
I: Wear it to a swap meet, boot sale, flea market, or rummage sale
IX: Buy something there and show it

10: A water resistant watch (50M or higher)
J: A swimming pool (or swimming hole depending on where you live), a river, a lake, or anywhere else people swim
X: A Baby Ruth candy bar (or similar looking candy bar) See if you can find the connection and recreate it

11: Your birth watch
K: A hospital
XI: A stuffed animal

12: A Chronograph
L: Somewhere that a chronograph would be used for it’s intended purpose (laboratory, race track, sporting event)
XII: A calculator

13: A watch that runs on a battery (electric, electronic, digital, quartz, tuning fork, kinetic, Eco-Drive)
M: An electric car (can be a Hybrid if your watch is a Kinetic or Eco-Drive)
XII: Show some trinket that you carry with you daily and share the story of why you carry it with you (no smarty phones)

14: An orange dialed watch. That new safety fluorescent green would count as well if you can find a dial that color. The watch dial must be the same color as your countries construction barrels. Orange barrels here in the US so your watch would have to be an orange dial if you are in the US.
N: A construction barrel or road block
XIV: A shovel (if you have to take public transportation and they won’t let you bring a shovel on then wear a pair of work boots and get them in the shot)

15: A watch with the same colors as your beer (3 color minimum) The watch strap counts as a color
O: The matching beer bottle or can label.
XV: A matching shirt (3 colors or same brand beer logo)

2018  3 part points were:

1. scratched up watch-
A. A wreck, eg car, demolished building, a scar or some other thing that has had damage
I. A Bandaid with Wrist Sushi written on it. 


2: Your most expensive watch
B: A burned down, boarded up, or abandoned building preferably in a low rent area (to add to the excitement of getting your most expensive watch jacked off your wrist
II: The smallest (lowest value) denomination coin or currency your country currently puts into circulation

3: Your summer watch
C: Wild animal (rabbit in your garden, bird on the phone wire, squirrel chewing on your electric box) NO PETS. If you can't find a wild animal just wash your car and a bird will be along shortly...
III: A domestic animal treat or toy- eg dog biscuit, cat toy or fish tank ornament.

4: Your cheapest watch

E: A mere-go-round or spinning activity in a playground or fair ground.

I: A war monument or memorial
IX: (A) helmet or (B) some other item that can correlate with war relic that can be shown in public without causing terror. E.g a canteen or pocket knife.

10: A water resistant watch (50M or higher)
J: A swimming pool (or swimming hole depending on where you live), a river, a lake, or anywhere else people swim
X: A Baby Ruth candy bar (or similar looking candy bar) See if you can find the connection and recreate it

11: A digital watch
K: A sun dial
XI: piece of analog technology- e.g vinyl record or cassette tape

12: A tachymeter watch- AKA the donut speed timer challenge
L: Somewhere that a tachymeter can be used for it’s intended purpose (laboratory, race track, sporting event)
XII: A donut

13: A watch that runs on a battery (electric, electronic, digital, quartz, tuning fork, kinetic, Eco-Drive)
M: An electric car (can be a Hybrid if your watch is a Kinetic or Eco-Drive)
XIII: A charging cable.

14: A “Hi Viz” dialled watch. Orange/yellow/green etc.
N: A construction site or road block
XIV: A tape measure.

15: A watch that is not Swiss, Japanese or Chinese- (excluding the movement)
O: A memento from the country that made the watch.
XV: A flag or identifying symbol of the country you reside in. (Please provide a paragraph about the company/ watch and its origin)

I had always wanted the Grand Prize draw to be on the Anniversary date of June 7th but that never worked out.

Not sure when the prize watches will be done as that may affect the timing of prize selection but not every Grand Prize winner chooses the Timegrapher.

If it was up to me I would say 2 weeks or even a month but that might turn some people off from participating but we always seem to have a 6 way tie with 10 days and some crappy guess the number of cars in the parking lot or how many people are standing in line tie breaker.

Maybe the tie breaker will be a 3 point theme dropped 12 or 24 hours before the next day so that noone has a chance to go on Amazon and "Buy the win"

Like they say in football (real football, not soccer) "Don't leave the game up to the refs."

If you put up points on the competition it doesn't matter how many bad or missed calls there were you win at the end.

Ha, true that....  the hand washing stunt was more in the vein of living dangerously with your vintage watch that is not even splash resistant.

Another thought - what if an extra point was issued at the end of the tournament for the BEST of each category?  So being able to get the 3-points is nice, but if you really knock it out of the park you can get a 4th...  Or something like that to encourage truly good entries.

This thread has brought back many memories from a few years back. Walking round with £50 notes trying to find a derelict building. Not many stay derelict for long round these parts! There’s even still a video on my YouTube with WristSushi logos everywhere which I used to grab a bonus point. I seem to recall a perennial favourite was the Herschey bar in the pool scenario. Always enjoyed that one although it demoted me from a first place tie, as I used a pepperami (salami stick snack) one year and Nick quite rightly called me on it.

Dirt road? Can do!

Any theme can be completed in full or in part on any day during the challenge.

If you choose 2 B II for the first day which let's say is the 14th of the month your watch needs to show 14 in the date window and must be posted on the 14th.

If you choose 5 E V for the 18th of the month your watch needs to show 18 in the date window and must be posted on the 18th.

Or have a newspaper or online news source headline for that date in the picture.

If you cannot do the watch, place and object you can do 1 or 2 or all 3 parts of the theme.

You CANNOT pick the watch from theme 1 and the place from theme 5 and the object from theme 15 and post them all together for 3 points.

Now if you want to go running through your creek wearing a Speedo yelling Wrist Sushi over and over and have someone film it you can use it for the Video Challenge extra point
