Whoa that is an amazing dial russtmurray! Congrats on that!
- I got my first pair of progressive lens glasses Friday night. Until now I've only donned readers once and awhile. I'm struggling mightily with them despite wearing them religiously since acquiring them.
- To try and make myself feel better, I picked out a fine detail watch as I know they are helping me with that. My Seiko 7T92-0CF0 Flight-master with it's slide rule bezel was the one to try them with. Only I come to find it's battery is dead. I know a guy who can help with that and it's sorted.
- Yesterday my Wife called to tell me our garage smelled like a fuel spill and that it was permeating into the house
- On my way home later that evening she called to tell me our power had just gone out. Estimated repair was +20hrs due to fallen trees. The evening was lost to setting up the generator and preparing for a long night on less power that we need to stay warm.
- This morning at work prior to start I decided to look for the fuel leak. I found it when I touched a rubber line coming from the fuel filter. It instantly rained down gasoline all down my arm until my sub tank had emptied (~0.75 gal / 2.8L)
At least we got power back late last night!

I can sort it out from the prefix (37xx = tuning fork / 78xx = electronic balance), If it starts with a 4- sequence it might not be as obvious. I have a pair of 4-48xxxx marked electronic balance watches but my only tuning fork is marked with 3701-370112K

Ouch inboost, that sounds like a tough evening. I wasn't sure you were getting as much weather out west, as most of the storm lines I was seeing locally were from SSW, but I guess the storm front was pretty wide, huh?
Wearing a little bit of gold this morning while in the office, before doing some yard work cleanup in the afternoon.

victor we got hit pretty hard in the early afternoon. Water came under the roll-up doors and the lunch room door due to massive local flooding from overloaded roof drainage. Power was out in pockets, most of my co-workers and our business were unaffected. In my neighborhood we seem to have trees that seek power lines and would aim for a generator if they saw one as well. That's why I keep my wheel-out unit hidden until I have to use it

I have not switched to progressive's still wear bifocals like an old man. Was told by many that wear them that it does take some getting accustom to. Also working on cars and things at varying distances you find you keep moving your head around to get focused. That said it similar to wear bi's but there I just have two choices. Trick with new scripts are to wear then at the beginning of the next day vs. the same day.

small I am seriously considering dumping these in favor of either the bifocal or just 'computer distance readers' which I had previously. It seems I've picked up some astigmatism and this is why I was urged to put something on my face all the time. You're absolutely right. I am constantly 'ranging' with my head and I hate it. Working under the REPU this morning with my head stuck on the creeper forced me to abandon the glasses all together. I still feel like my overall visual performance is better without the glasses on, but I have to admit at close reading distances my vision is far improved (+1.75 reading correction) and that my distance vision is sharper when I manage to aim my head right.
In the mean time I walk around in a blurry haze because I can't stop moving my eyes with respect to my view.

inboost ...Simon I have just bought my 4th pair or progressives. Pair 1. Faulty from the get go. Glass grinding was poor. Pair 2. After a year of continuous use (office computing) I eventually got aquainted with them and found them very good. Pair 2. Dropped from a great height while trimming my wife's bush...a Bay Tree. Pair 3. Pair 2 replaced under house insurance but using Pair 1/2 frames. Pair 3. While awaking from an agitated sleep (dreamt I had bought a Rolex) I rolled over them and they broke. 3 year gap while I used a 1990 pair of safety magnifiers and a pair of 1.25 ready readers. Pair 4. Obtained just before Xmas and they are feeling good. Only 3 more instalments to go and they will be mine

Fergus I recall seeing you atop a ladder hedge trimming so I can easily imagine the tree related death of pair 2. I find myself in such predicaments too. I have no daily routine at the moment other than wearing them from waking until bedtime. I think my Wife is about to place a strip of duct mending tape over my mouth as she's suffered enough of my griping two days past and still I grumble.
I don't know if I have the patience to take a year to become used to these things. The optician who fitted me (that's a loose term - she handed them to me) said up to two months and then if still no go we might consider a change. She told me they will never be as good as single depth lenses or my natural vision and to be willing to accept the compromise that they are. I find this hard to swallow considering the fee I paid and the fact that we are in 2024 and can print out unimaginable complexities at the press of a button nowadays.I think she is mostly defending her workmanship and lack of willingness to go to extra efforts to help me, not my vision.
cd_god - That would be 'Sh*tshow' if I have my facts straight

Out in the cold today with a tuning fork Is that a tuning fork or an electronic balance twhp101? Typically tuning forks were 'Hisonics' from Citizen. I'd love to know the case number of the watch if you don't mind. I can sort it out from the prefix (37xx = tuning fork / 78xx = electronic balance), If it starts with a 4- sequence it might not be as obvious. I have a pair of 4-48xxxx marked electronic balance watches but my only tuning fork is marked with 3701-370112K inboost definitely a tuning fork! Case number is 4-370546. I have a couple of these and a Hisonic too. I've added a photo of electronic balance Cosmotrons too at the bottom. I have a bit of a thing for electric watches ๐ The Hisonics were from memory the 2181 licenced from Bulova. They have two coils, one on the end of each of the two tines of the fork. The GX Cosmotron only has one coil and is a movement of Citizen's design but using Bulova's technology. The Hisonics share most parts with the 218, the GX 219 shares less and is trickier for parts. Stephen has some good info on Sweephand sweep-hand.org/2012/05/21/this-weeks-featured-watch-33-the-cosmotron-gx/Caseback photo and some Cosmotrons

More watches than an average watch seller shop has, not to mention mostly impossible to find and extremely collectibles.

twhp101 thank you for the education on these, I know there is always more to learn! Beautiful collection as serdal22 has said. I totally get your love of these and feel the same way about them. I currently have the one Hisonic, and he's got two companions (the Unisonic and Accutron). Perhaps more need to be added to help round out the symphony

I picked up another mid-size hand winder a few weeks ago, a 2559-7000 from February โ69. Runs like a dream, just needed a bit of a polish to the crystal, case cleaning and new strap. The applied markers come across as quite art deco in appearance to me, very pleasant especially against the linen-effect dial. inboost - by โprogressivesโ I assume you mean vari-focal lenses? Iโve had them for about 6 years now and, yes, they take a bit of getting used to. I found walking down steps quite odd when I first started wearing them as I kind of lost my sense of depth perception - it felt like the steps were much further away that they were in reality. It was almost like I was floating!
