Difficult theme today as like many here I tend to do the opposite; I buy shitters and try to make them look as good as I can. Although this one, one of my crusty gang watches, is one where I learned that just like dogs die in hot cars, watches die on hot windowsills. That was a lesson learned the hard way and luckily none of my best pieces fell to the same fate, although I lost a flake of paint from my Pogue dial. So yes, I wrecked the dial by leaving it exposed on a windowsill during a really hot couple of weeks. A rare combination of events as living in England we don’t get all that many really hot weeks. My best guess on the discolouration is that oil from the movement boiled and vaporised and deposited itself on the dial on an almost atomic level. I have tried, it won’t come off. But do you know what, I have come to love it. And a before shot.

Wow is that an assortment. This looks like something out of an 70's-80's Si-Fi TV show... Agreed! That one is wild enough to make me want to seek it out. What is it? I’ve had it apart and there is no manufacturers or other name anywhere on the watch or any component!

I’ve bought lots of stuff off AE. Mainly Chinese knock off tools, whose quality is much better these days although you can still be disappointed now and again.
I bought two cheap watches from AE. Both absolutely shit and waste of money, albeit they were about £15 each. More bought out if curiosity than with any expectation.
I know people that but seagull movements from there without incident. No experience if NH style movements though.
But if you do go ahead let us know?

Going through my watchbox I have three that are from actual shop purchases and not using the stores website, which would have opened up a couple of extra choices including some G-Shocks and my Arnie Solar (or ArSol to give it the proper nickname!). My Rolex OP 11400 is from Goldsmiths in Watford and is one I still wear regularly. It is starting to feel like it could do with a service at some point; the winding action isn’t as smooth as it once was and the hand setting too is less buttery. Although still better than most of my sushi pieces! The bracelet is similar looking to a few Seiko ones I have but in all honesty is just much better quality by far. Probably why it costs so much more I guess. These other two: well the one on the left is never worn these days. I bought it in a watch shop at Cyprus airport when I went out there for a wedding. This was a long time before I fell down the rabbit hole but although it’s a crap movement it has a lovely blue dial and steel case with a raised rotating bezel and an integrated bracelet, straight out of the Gerald Genta playbook. If this had a decent movement and a good name on the dial it would be different gravy and worth a lot of money. I remember at the airport waiting for my flight, I put the watch on and put the case and papers in the nearest bin. How my world has changed since then! The one on the right we all know and respect, the Casio “World Time” “Illuminator” aka the Casio Royale. Never been quite sure of that nickname. I’m assuming it refers to James Bond wearing a G757 which has a similar display although as that was in Octopussy and not Casino Royale I’ve never been quite sure. I’m open to other interpretations of the reason! Again, I don’t actually wear this one any more, or at least I have very rarely put it on since I got a few G-Shocks which took its place in rotation. This piece came from Argos in Watford when I was on a lunch break back when my office was located nearby.

Ah - thanks small . I get it now - that is quite easy to read. I wonder what the other larger 0-60 scale is for on the left of pip 's dial? The 0-60 scale around the circumference is purely the seconds track.

Ok, here we are then. From left to right June’68 6119-8160 June’68 6106-8060 4006-6011 for my wife’s BMY And I’m still hunting one or more 13xxxx for March 2011 for my son. Any particular reference? Easier to pick things out that way and see of it matches? I’ve mostly been looking at SKX007 and similar. Cool watch, not too expensive for my shallow pockets, easy to work on.

Like leffemonster I have quite a few BY and several BYM watches. This is my favourite (today anyway) from the BYM category. June ‘68. I have one BYM for my wife (more recently than mine but a gentleman never tells haha!) in the form of a Bellmatic which is pretty cool. I have also been looking for a long time for a March 2011 watch for my son’s BYM without success. I think my best bet may be an SKX007 or similar and I’ve seen within a month or two but never a “13xxxx” caseback. So if anyone has one… 😁

God, I have so many favourites it changes almost by the hour. This was my favourite when I looked at the watch boxes this morning 😁 I have other watches that mean more to me as they were gifts, and some that have a special place as I repaired them back to working order or learned a new skill while working on. But I do like quirky watches. It’s the second new watch I bought since I got into this idiocy properly, my first and so far only Kickstarter watch and one of my more interesting pieces in that reading it uses a different method to the hands or digital that we normally see.

Well I had a really busy weekend and missed the last two days WRUW threads so I’ll join in today instead. And luckily I have a suitable watch on! This is probably my most capable diver.

Had this one in today. And yesterday I had a play with no less than two of these. I’d say by far the most valuable pieces I have ever handled. Couple of hundred grand each I’d estimate. I was lucky enough to have lunch with David Walter and his wife and Peter Doble and his wife plus a mate from Melbourne. Exalted company if you are into that sort of thing. But very down to Earth good guys and gals too.
