I just restored this beautiful Teal Sunrise dial 6139-7060. Here I will compare it to the more highly recognized Teal Sunrise 6139-6002 Pogue. Both are gorgeous watches in their own right and owing to how they are the only two references within the 6139 series with the teal color base dial, I was eager to add the -7060 to my collection.
My research indicates that the only 2 months Seiko ever produced these teal dials was in November and December 1972. As such all case back serials, -6002 or -7060, should always begin with 2Nā¦ or 2Dā¦ Such is the case for both of mine shown here. Both are RESISTANT case backs.
Both are JDM SpeedTimers so both always feature the 21 Jewel 6139B movement. Both of mine have English/Kanji day wheels but I had a previous sunrise Pogue that had an English/Roman day wheel, which I have seen on other JDM 6139ās as well, so this may have been for non-Japanese Asian markets.
The sunrise Pogue is always a model 6139-6002. It uses white outline hour and minute hands with lumed centers featuring black paint at the base. I have seen the sweep seconds in both orange and yellow, and the subdial hand (always rectangular shaped) in both orange and yellow. Often they are mixed, like mine which has the original orange sweeper and original yellow subdial hand.
The sunrise teal -7060 uses the same hour and minute hands as does the sunrise Pogue. The 2 chrono hands are always yellow and the subdial hand is rectangular. The original sweep hand on mine was a tad bent so I replaced it with a vintage yellow 6139 seconds hand in very good condition.
Dial codes are 6139-6090T for the 6139-6002 Pogue & 6139-7110T for the 6139-7060. The āsunriseā name comes from the extra sun-like shaped detail surrounding the subdial from 0-10 minutes. On the -6002 Pogue it has a wider flare than on the -7060 version. Both feature colored highlight background in the minute track area between 0-15 minutes. For the Pogue it is orange, sometimes seen faded to yellow but properly orange. For the -7060 it is yellow, though frequently faded to gray. Additionally in the -7060 the subdial is painted with black fill inside the subdial extending from 10-30 minutes leaving only the 0-10 minute wedge in the base teal coloring for a very special extra effect.
Pogues always featured the standard ācount upā inner rotating ring, while all -7060 (& -7069s) used the thinner ring with the ācount downā configuration. Both watches shown here feature NOS replacements.
Comparing the Pogue case to the -7060/-7069 case, regardless of dial used, is a separate discussion. We all know the Pogue is a large case with the Pepsi outer tachymeter bezel and is quite substantial on the wrist. That said, the -7060 has a larger crystal (34 mm vs 33 mm on the Pogue) so itās a bit more ādialā and is surprisingly tall for the case size too.
I hope this summary was interesting to the 6139 fan base out there !
