Hey y'all, Ive been throwing around the idea of making a watch storage box of some kind. Too many watches just laying around in piles on my desk... Would love to see some inspiration out of yall if anyone has made their own thing. Gonna try to post some pics as i get my ideas laid out. Initial layout idea

Sweet watches you are laying out there. Why not just buy a watch box? They are cheap enough.

I agree with highbeat. Unless you excel in woodworking and enjoy it as a hobby (like my dad) then I would go ahead and buy a cheap one. You can get a nice particleboard (faux wood) 6-watch box off of aliexpress for around $20-30. Making one wouldn't be worth the hassle unless the process is something you would enjoy.

Slightly off topic for your question but I saw this on insta the other day and want one. Regarding your question, if you google there are lots of ideas. A big thread on TOF I remember too.

I started off with this stand... Had to make two of them as the collection grew.
Then I made a couple of boxes...
These also became full forcing me to make a 4 drawer cabinet to house the rest. Photophuket ate the pics of that Basically the cabinet has 4 slide out drawers almost identical in size and shape to the boxes above.
Probably blurred but you get the idea...

Apart from the drawer handles, all the wood is recycled and the foam watch rests are from left over pipe insulation a friend donated.

I do have a couple of the cheap 24-watch boxes i ordered off of amazon, but im not a huge fan of them tbh. This is more of a screw around until maybe something turns out nice kind of project 😁 Done a little woodworking before and enjoyed it, thought it would be fun to try something new. Pulled out what i think is my biggest watch, 6138-3002 jumbo as a reference and trimmed the bottom panels down to just barely wider than him. Still playing with drawer depth to see how deep it needs to be.

Solid Top, 12 Drawers and Deeper Trays , but not with .... Small Dividers. Parts on the Top and Watch's below. Aloha Louis

I've seen single drawers selling for around 50$ apiece around here though. Would be a bit pricey unless you get lucky Decided to just glue together what I've got and start drawing up the second revision. Actually not a bad turnout for a first attempt I think. Put in some felt scraps while it was still drying to get a feel for it. Kinda going for a vintage machinist tool chest vibe. Not sure if i'll bother staining it though. Also need to cut off the ends of the horizontal dividers too, once it's dry. I think I would like to do the second attempt with dado joints and maybe 3x larger. Maybe a different base configuration too at that size since it might snap apart with a little sag...

Solotov,
If you can do dado joints, why not go all the way and do box joints or better still, dovetail joints? Your boxes/drawers will look fantastic

I just thought that didn't seem too crazy of a step up. I miiight stretch for a box joint on the corners, I do think that would look really nice. The dovetail bit seems a little intimidating though

I had a copy of WoodWorker magazine with an article where a guy showed how to do perfect dovetails free hand with just a box saw. I tried it out and was amazed at how easy it is to do and my joints were nice and tight!

Aloha Sir, Hey since you can these try them like Zeke mentioned then if you can get some material make a Big box to slip them into it with little runner to guide and divide them then you will have a nice chest for your watch's.

Also Solotov, I made one similar to this one about ... 2 years ago form a Library that tossed it out as a Cabinet. I pick it up for free when some one called me about it when I asked about it when I saw it out back for the trash when I was at the Library. It look similar to this here that was on a Watch Forum I guess some one had made. I made .... A Dozen Drawers for it and it came out very nice. It had doors on it so I converted it to having Drawers. You can even find a very nice old Box that can be converted for use also with a little ingenuity given. I found also a very nice almost new ...Un-Finished Pine .... 4 Draw Dresser some one had on the road side to be trashed so I ask for it and converted it to having a ... Lot Of little Drawers I would say it has around ..... 6 Drawers in it for my room here. I keep Ammunition Reloading parts in it... Powder and other items is in a .... Metal Explosives Box in the Garage hidden and locked. Louis

Aloha , Hi John, John for watch boxes you can use any type that will hold them. My friend here simply found a few different Silver Ware old boxes and got some Pillows made from ... Insulation Material Tube Material then made Separators with some useful wood slats then finished the box with some nice stain. With you occupation you should be able to find some nice old Cabinets or some Boxes that you can convert. I got mine from a Library that has tossed it out for the trash. I saw them carrying it out on a hand cart so I inquired about it and they told me sure take if you can use it. When I saw it I instantly saw what I could do with it. I stripped it out off the Drawers and then made new parts for it then finished it. You would be surprised what a ... Old Box or Small Cabinet of some kind can be turned into when worked on. Aloha Louis

Another little project to kinda practice towards the watch box The dollar tree has these little trays that I quite like to store bits and bobs and busted watches in, decided to try and start cleaning up my watch parts/storage a bit. First time using a router too! Just together with a couple framing nails for now, was thinking about making a second bay for trays still...
