To really amplify on Adrian's point on the price being a function of the marketing efforts, the 4R36 can be purchased new for $35-$40.
So where does the manufacturing cost come from that justify's a $600 USD price tag when cased and with a rubber strap? It doesn't. Yet we still buy them…

I bought a brand new teal reissue of the 6548 diver for $235 which is actually not just a fair price but a darn good one. I was really referring to all the new LEs and such that command 2-3 times the price. Clearly marketing.

HiBeat - I’m in full agreement as regards LE models. I still can’t quite believe I wedged out the full retail price for my SPB129J1, and then I did it again with the SRPK17K1 I console myself with the fact that I’ve only ever done it twice… There’s no doubt that the SPB411 will fly out of the display cabinets, and equally there’s no doubt that they’ll end up on ebay at inflated prices shortly afterwards. As long as people continue to pay the (well over the top) premium prices that such releases command, Seiko will keep on banging them out. If, as some seem to think likely, the suits at Seiko knock out a 55th Anniversary ‘Pogue’ next year it will be a similar situation - an LE run with a whopping price tag attached that will fly out the door.

Going to have to agree on the 6R. I recently bought 2 watches in the Caribbean while on vacation. One is a 6R35 and the other a 4R35 (IIRC). I've been wearing the 6R35 this week. It has gained a minute in one week. Not bad but the last time I wore the 4R35 it was almost dead on for the full 2 weeks I wore it. The 6R watch was more than twice the cost of the 6R watch. 60 seconds over 7 days = +9 spd. C'mon Bob that's great performance !!!! Not complaining about the performance Jon. Merely echoing the issue of cost vs. performance, especially when a 4R that I bought on the same day was (as Jonthan Koch used to say) "dead nuts on"!! That black monster gained less than a minute over the course of two weeks and cost less than 1/2 of the 62MAS homage!!!!

Me being the sap that I am, yes I am prepared to pay whatever stupid price they put on a faithful Pogue reissue, if and when it comes out !!

Going to be a tough one for them. I guess they should have an automatic movement that they can use/modify but if they didn't do it at 50, not sure they will at 55? I'd hate to see the MSRP on that one AND they will probably make a lot of them since it's such an iconic model.

From what I can tell, this isn't a parts bin watch, like sooooo many others they put out. Wouldn't there be a significant cost in getting the design, machining etc all setup for this new case layout, bracelet, dial, bezel and handset - and all of that for just 4,000 total units? That part can't be just like dropping in a cheap movement that goes in every other watch, right?

Ooof. This guy. Well, he is why computers have mute buttons and why YouTube has a subtitle option. Gotta be honest...I am not sure it is worth $1500, but this watch looks damned good.

Agree, I think it looks damn good. Unfortunately I am in the too high priced camp, take about $1K off that price and I would be on it
