How about a rule for no ladies watches unless gender appropriate to the buyer? You already worrying about the competition? As if...

Great idea. For those of us (whinging) Brits who don't use them new fangled dollars, is the exchange rate going to be set ( I think it's $1.65) today, at the start of the competition or at the time of purchase ? I'm off to look for a £6 watch. Yep I used the US dollar as most of the members here are shaded by the "stares and stripes"! We living in the lucky countries have an advantage of a few dollars, but have the disadvantage of fewer watches available locally. So in the end it just a fun way to add to the collection and hopefully some of the lurkers may join in Rod

"OK the watch needs to be bought in the Month of entry,"
How about a + - 5 days grace period to account for shipping otherwise the first 4 days of each month would have no entries.
What about Seiko sub brands?
Does the watch have to work? I think that the issue of working or not is a contentious one as the seller may claim that the watch works and in reality it doesn't! So, no parts watches, and the watch needs to have the potential to work, by being complete.

So is the contest "the coolest $10 watch you found" or the "look at this 6309 diver I got for $10 because it is worth $100" profit margin contest?
What about watch lots? If I see a lot of 5 watches and one is a Seiko and the lot sells for $50 making the average price of each watch $10 because you can usually only score a good deal in a watch lot.

No watch lots, individual only IMO.

Yep individual watches only and the forum votes on the watch. If you happen to catch complete 6309 from the bay for $10 then you most likely will get lots of votes or death threats

So just Seiko? Not even Orient? Or Citizen? It is a Japanese watch forum after all... I'm Not trying to stir the pot, it just seems like this could unnecessarily cut down on the number of entries.

Any one else going to be playing DEFENSE?
I just saw this one and it had grand prize winner written all over it but the opening bid was $9.99 and someone already bid on it with 7 minutes to go.
So the next bid would put it over the $10 limit but if I walked away someone else might get it for $9.99 and enter it in the contest.
So do I punt from the 45 yard line or take a shot at a field goal and go on defense?

I think the forums members will single handedly inadvertently shill all Seiko watches listed in the next 9 moths to sell for a minimum of $10.50
This 7009 went for $10.52 and the kinetic went for $11.50

You're evil Josh . . . oh and BTW . . . . yeah I had the same thought but didn't do it as I knew my luck would be that I'd win the watch and be double screwed. Cost too much for the competition and not a watch I want. WTH would I do with a drawer full of $10.49 watches???

Yep you have a point, the idea of only Seiko was that the majority of forum members have a good knowledge of Seiko's. This hopefully would rule out freko's etc. Happy to amend the "rules/guidelines" etc. What do the others think, personally it would broaden the appeal and educate the Seiko focused!

That's what I thought too about getting stuck with a ton of watches since anyone in it for the contest would only bid up to $10. I figured I could always use the strap for something if it got dumped on me but it closed at $25.
I suppose if someone really wanted to cheat they could always back door a seller with a $15 BIN watch with $5 shipping and offer $10 with $10 shipping and have them change the BIN price but I think those of us here are all above something petty like that just to claim 5 minutes of anonymous internet fame.

Rod
I asked this before because there are a lot of nice Pulsar and Lorus watches out there brand new for $5 all day long.
I think we should stick with just Seiko or run 2 contests: one for Seiko and one for other Japanese / Asian brands but specifically list the only eligible branded watches.

You may also want to add a rule for when/if there is a tie in the voting. Perhaps, also state how long the poll with be left up.

Rod I think that would be good to expand during the next running of the contest Take some comments after this contest ends and see how the rules evolve.
