Currently reading FATAL EXCHANGE by Russell Blake. Combines a major foreign-country counterfeiting scheme against U.S. currency with an investigation into a serial killer of women. The book opens with a scene in which a rare watch dealer sells four Patek Phillippe watches for one million dollars in cash to a supposed collector. Sounds damn good. I'll have to check it out. If you have a Kindle, I'm able to loan the title to you. (I'm about 1/3 of the way through now.) Or if it's still on their list, you can get it from Amazon's top 100 free titles.

I don't have a kindle. I prefer the feel of a book in my hand. banana1.gif

I can borrow Kindle titles via WiFi from our public library; saves time and gas. 2. Many freebie and/or paid titles available from Amazon can be loaded via WiFi . 3. Ability to carry/store many books in a small, lightweight space. And if my Kindle storage capacity is exceeded, Amazon provides free storage. I often read two titles at a time switching back and forth between both; that would be awkward with paper books.

Hi Norm. How does one do the lending thing ? I've never tried it. I've read one Russel Blake, "Assasin" as a freebie and quite enjoyed it.

Finished 'The Glass Bead Game' this morning . . . Hesse is hard going here, makes 'Siddhartha' and 'Steppenwolf' seem like Dr Seuss, never again.

I got a Kindle Paperwhite on a whim and I have to say I really like it.
The only disappointment so far is my local library does not keep as much kindle format books as I initially thought. Supposedly there are ways of converting epub into kindle format, but I haven't had the time to work that out. I don't read so much that I don't mind buying directly from amazon, the library option would be nice for things I'm not willing to spend the money on.
As far as the reading experience goes, it easily matches or exceeds a print book for me. Backlight on this model works well too for night time reading.

Just came in the mail from Goldsboro books in London (specialists in signed first editions)" Moghul V The serpents tooth" by Alex Rutherford, and "Emperor, Blood of Gods" by Conn Iggulden. Both a must read for historical fiction fans.

I like Herman & Steppenwolf is probably in my top ten of favourite books. I'm currently reading Pursuit of Honour by Vince Flynn. Classic literature it's not, but for anyone who enjoys well written thrillers with a superb main character, I'd recommend it.

Thanks for the tip Shed Man, might give it a shot . . . old Herr Hesse has seriously taken it out of me for the moment. laugh1.gif

Click on "Manage Your Kindle" 3. Next to the title you want to loan, click on "Actions" 4. Click on "Loan this Title" 5. On the resulting screen enter the recipients name and e-mail address. (I'm assuming that the layout/procedure for Amazon U.K. is the same as that of Amazon U.S.)

thunbsup.gifAccessing it from my PC, I'm not getting the loan option. I'm a Prime member, which I think makes me eligabubble, so I may have to do it from my Kindle proper. Looks like I can borrow it direct from Amazon. I'll try when I get home.

Watch-related fiction: (From "Fatal Exchange" by Russell Blake, mentioned earlier)
"She walked around the shop looking at all the watches and stopped in front of the case of Rolexes. There was a beautiful white gold ladies President with a deep blue lapis lazuli dial that was absolutely stunning. She'd never been much of a watch nut, and didn't care much about that sort of thing, but this one took her breath away. It was beautiful" ....
" 'It's breathtaking. Is it really expensive?' Tess had no idea how much a watch like that cost." ....
"She took off her Baby G and held out her left hand, and he slipped it on, snapping the clasp shut. It was too big, way too many links, but looked amazing on her." .... He ducked into the back room and came back with a small jeweler's screwdriver, and expertly removed four links. He set the time and slipped back on her wrist."

There are some borrowing options for Prime members though. Limited to the primary Prime member, if that makes any sense.

Also Amazon maintains a "top 100 free" Kindle titles that they update periodically.

When I eventually managed to download it as a borrowed item, I thought it would go to all my devices (4), but it will only deliver to a proper Kindle and won't send from that to other dvices. So I can't access it on Netbook, phone or desktop. Not a major problem, but a bit annoying.
