a little clarification is that the proof silver dial was marketed in the Japanese market? Or only in the US.

The 6139 Silver dial proof is a rare breed. No 6139 proofs were ever marketed in the US to my knowledge. They were all resist models.

The 6139 Silver dial proof is a rare breed. No 6139 proofs were ever marketed in the US to my knowledge. They were all resist models. The US, after a 1968 lawsuit in which a diver's watch marked "waterproof" leaked and led to a casualty, never got watches marked "Waterproof" again. At least, not from Seiko. All Proof-marked 6139s were meant for a market other than North America. All 6139s sent to North America were marked "Resist" on the dial and caseback. Case numbers ending in "9" were specifically created to differentiate between North America watches and R.O.W. watches.

There is an incredible '69 silver proof proof 6139 for sale on WUS right now that I have been absolutely drooling over but don't have the funds to buy right now. Gorgeous watch that according to the description was worn by a pilot in Vietnam. If anyone's interested of course:) . I am not sure what the policy is here on posting links to other sites auctions, but if you search for Seiko 6139 there you should find it.

The only one I can find on WUS has a stained dial and refinished case (spun on lathe or electric motor). Seems a lot of money for that watch to me with or without supposed vietnam connections. The proof silvers are hard to find. I've been looking for over a year for a mint dial one but nothing yet. I do have a rather tired looking silver proof I brought for the parts but that's a close as I've come. I have a spot on silver resist to keep me happy anyway All the silver 6139-6000's I've ever seen came on the Stelux solid link bracelet by the way.

I have a lot to learn in spotting these things. I saw the stained Dial, though it looks kind of cool. I never would have guessed about the case.

I've not seen a JDM model of the silver dial yet in person sorry. Mine was brought new in Canada but is a resist dial. The silver proof I have was brought new in the UK and came with a Stelux bracelet.

I was wondering, how come there don't seem to be any catalog pictures of the silver dial 600x?

I have searched daily for about a year and nothing at all has come up worth buying. Don't feel bad. I have been collecting these things for twelve years, and I only have one silver. Seller's pic, from years ago.
