Bought a lot of absolute crap just for this and solely for its bracelet. Solid and seamless steel. Heavy yet tactile and comfortable. If you come across this cheap, grab it with you! Lug width is 22mm, but little fitting should make it a nice bracelet on a 20mm.

Winging its way as we speak.
It's old, its dirty (filthy), some small scratches on the crystal. Can't tell whether the edges met a buffing wheel at some point. I think that the bracelet is correct. Anyway, I was intrigued, I'd wanted one, and the price was reasonable. Fingers crossed the battery didn't leak and it can be an attractive everyday watch.

Nice one! Some spotting can be seen on the edge of the dial, but isn't necessarily battery juice. Bracelet is most likely not original. It seems to be too narrow and doesn't sit flush with the case as it should.

The other pics seemed to show the dial itself OK, so I'm hoping that's reflection rather than actually on the dial. The bracelet was a big question mark for me - it resembles the correct bracelet, but as you note it isn't flush with the case. And the seller didn't provide a picture of the clasp, which is a big tell-tale, so I suppose it's more likely a Bambi or similar. Fortunately the price paid reflected an appropriate discount for these issues. Will know soon, as it's in NY customs ATM.
As a side note the prices on these are all over the map and better reflect seller's presentation than actual condition. I don't gamble, but I recognize that I have, if not an addiction, at least an affinity for auctions. Ya take yer chances....

Sometimes the spots can be moisture damage. In any case, should be a nice watch if it runs!

Looks like my first Bell-Matic is on its way. After triple checking the other pictures from different angles I am pretty sure the dial is fine this time. It's another birth year watch, but once again didn't match the month. I am beginning to suspect Seiko had company holidays in August 1967...

Nice find. The crystal should have some AR coating though I can't tell if it's supposed to be on the outside or inside. I wear mine on a leather strap which is what they came in. The battery is big on these and doesn't last that long.

Thanks for posting that ouroboros. I didn't realize that it came on leather - I saw similar ones on bands and thought that applied to all.
Yours looks quite nice and clean. Here's hoping mine will clean up that nicely.

Yes, most of these came on leather, though there was a bracelet version. If you are really lucky you can find an original 'GQ'-marked buckle for yours. These are great watches and the 48-series is pretty tough. I have bought at least a dozen of them and most fire right up with a new battery.
They have a very odd second-setting mechanism where the seconds hand can be jumped ahead by 10 seconds when the crown is pulled out. Kinda handy if the watch is running slow and you are trying to hack it to a time source because it allows the seconds hand to skip ahead instead of simply being stopped. The 48-series may be the first quartz Seiko to have the now-ubiquitous low battery warning where the second hand ticks in two second intervals.
Battery life is short, as was mentioned, normally about a year. This is why they have the huge user-removable battery hatch, which is probably going to fight you if it still has it's original gasket. The gaskets become hardened with age and this makes the hatches a bear to remove. Often, I have to de-case the movement and replace the battery and/or hatch gasket by pushing the hatch out from the back side.

Already with me and I was surprised at the incongruence between the size and weight. Was I wrong to expect more heft. That crown can't be ignored.

If I would have known I would have been working outside so much I would have bought an Eco-Drive which I did a little too late in the season.
Other than that one I haven't bought a new watch (except for my Ole Miss Timex to wear on Gameday sponsored by Home Depot) for several months.
Having to "live within your means" all my life sucks.
Having doubled dipped the last 3 weeks working at TNXJ while off or calling in sick to TNJ I decided I was going to blow all of the extra money and treat myself.
Some good Black Friday deals watch and strap wise.
I already have one of these but it is a great watch and only want to wreck one so I bought another one.
Ebay seller sent me an offer on this one since I was watching it.
I went to their website and it was $10 less and then they had a 25% off Black Friday discount code so I bought it.
Got this one on the cheap.
Amazon had a deal if you used your bank card rewards points to pay they would match them 50% on purchases so I bought this one.
Screw Timex.com
They say free shipping and then charge you $12. I emailed their customer service and was told "custom and sports watches that were shipped from overseas" did not qualify.
They had a 30% discount code so it offset the shipping cost.
Blushark has buy 2 straps get 1 free deal that they do everyday.
If you try and use a discount code any other day it would negate the buy X get X free deal.
They had a Black Friday 25% off $50 orders discount code on their site.
It worked in conjunction with their free strap deal
Also, when you added the first or second strap to your cart they threw in a free watch roll
Crown and Buckle had 10% - 30% off straps sale.
The #Straps4acure straps were on clearance so I bought 1 more for me and 1 for a prize for next years "Challenge"
I think I still have $30 left at the end of the day to buy some beer to make it to the end of the week
