I’ve been a bit awol on many discussions lately. That said, I haven’t seen a comp recently. I propose a quartz accuracy challenge. I ran a comp on the other really big forum a few years ago with my own watches. mikeyt you might remember this. It was a fun challenge to run. This challenge, I propose- Contestants choose their favorite or most accurate quartz. But... 1-it can’t be synced to a server- eg atomic satellite gps internet Bluetoothable etc. 2- it can’t be a known haq. E.g. high frequency like the percisionist vhp precidrive exceed or any ‘advertised’ high accuracy watches. I’m looking for those quartz’s that fly under the radar in terms of accuracy. 3- has to be worn once a week throughout the challenge. 4- duration propose 4-8 weeks. 5- honesty. I trust that contestants won’t adjust their watch mid challenge. What’s the fun in that. Prize. TBA Let me know your thoughts. I expect to start the challenge if there is interest and will give you a week to decide on your watch choice.

Sounds like fun. I have no idea how accurate it is, but I'll throw the Omega 1337 that I serviced and got up and running up against the Seiko competition. It's from the era before Omega started using ETA quartz movements.

Well I only have 7548 or 7549.. So It's a toss up the 7548 I serviced myself the first and only time I have done a service OR the 7549 I had Adrian service.. I think I'll go with the Pro although it would make for a bit of fun to enter both..

Theoretically, your 7549 should be better because Adrian was able to use the trimmer to adjust the rate of the 7549, but that doesn't mean your 7548 wasn't already nicely trimmed.

Sounds cool Cam! I have a fair few quartz so I’ll dip into the box and choose one that looks interesting.

I was planning on putting my newly acquired Tuna in for an accuracy measure. It was serviced by Adrian so you could compare either of yours against it. There is no reason why you can’t use this as an excuse to do a real world test on as many of your quartz as you like. Just as long as the one you submit at the start is the one you finish with and it is worn enough to be comparable to everyone else’s entrants.

That sounds good, Cam, but keep in mind the DST starts here in the USA on March 10, and Summer Time in Europe on March 31. You may want to wait until that craziness and resetting ends before you start an accuracy competition. JMHO

Noted. Ours is the first weekend in April. This is wise advice. Let’s start it after the final daylight saving switch around the world. Anyone going to be switching after the 7th April? (Aussie switch)

Great idea. I'll have a go. I've thought about doing this myself for a while. The obvious ones for me would be the Seiko VFAs or the Citizen EFA, but instead I'm going to choose between one of the Citizen 8600 "blinkers" and the Citizen Solar Cell 8620. From 1976 or from 1974 or from 1976

rossr great choice. The purpose of this challenge is to find those really well made, well regulated or just fluke movements that perform at the same level as those that we know ‘should’ be accurate.

I've been eyeing a 7546 powered dress watch for a while. My low ball offer was declined, His start was too high, and now he's taken away his "best offer", This challenge might make for a good excuse to maybe buy more than I need...
Curious to others thoughts on the 7546 movement?? Anyone else going to wear on in the contest? I might enter my 7A28 too since it doesn't get the wrist time it deserves...

I'll play too! Modern replacement 7C46C in my vintage 7C46-7009 Golden Tuna.

I plan to go with two. 7548-cushion case hybrid and a Citizen BM8180.

I am seeing an emerging theme of test you 754x against the rest. Shout out to rossr for the representing citizen and tritto with omega. I might have to consider Tissot or a 7a38. Keep in mind you are only officially entering one for the prize. I am happy for an honorable mention category to cater for all those that want to enter multiple watches against their peers.

I may have to have a bank of them running and keep a spreadsheet. Be interesting to see which one of mine wins let alone which one overall.

It’s definitely a fun experiment. My best over 1 month was the ecodrive night hawk at -1 sec/month. My worse was my 7548-7000 @ something hideous like +45 sec per month. I only have a few of the same watches that I ran with in that challenge 3 years ago.

Sounds like a cool experiment.
I may have a chance with my recently serviced (by Spencer) 7A28-7049.
If one of the requirements is to wear it once a week, I may have to cheat and wear it at night since I wear each watch for a whole week at a time.

I saw thinking since I too change once a week, and wear for the week, my weekends are free days, planning to wear the quartz on Sunday's....

I hope you haven’t forgotten the challenge that will start in a few weeks. This will be my entry. I have adjusted the trim screw slightly on a recent battery change. It seems to be holding good time off wrist. I’m looking forward to see how Arnie stacks up against everyone else’s choice. I will have to find a suitable prize....
