I’m a sucker for bracelets to begin with, but this one showed up at a ridiculous price and I made an offer at a huge discount (still bloody expensive) and the seller accepted it. Some sellers put high prices on a BIN and take offers. My advice is don’t be afraid to offer 40% or more below asking price. This shows that asking prices don’t mean didly. This is a Y035 bracelet for slim turtles and 7002 divers from the 80s. Very rare.

Got me a patter patter clock. Now I need to figure out how to convert it to 240v without using a plugin transformer. These use the power line frequency, rather than a quartz crystal, to maintain time. Curse you, ouroboros ! You infected me with "analog digital clock syndrome" as well! I tripped over this one at the thrift over the weekend for $3, and just couldn't resist. A quick wipedown with IPA followed by Windex turned that disreputable-looking brick into this: A little research on the web indicates this model 8142-4 was made in numerous variants, starting in the late 60s right through the late 70s, with this particular one being right around 1975 or so. After I got it cleaned up, I synchronized it with my phone; 3 days later, it still flips over just as the minute changes on my screen. Given that operation is very nearly silent (if I press it against my ear I can hear a faint 60-cycle hum), I'm hoping all I need to fix on it is the "dial" illumination. Here's some pics I found while looking this little beast up; seems they use a sealed-unit for the timing motor, so not a lot of service possible short of desoldering the can and completely dismantling that. If there's any interest, I may post a teardown of what I find while I work on it. Cheers! mnem *hopelessly analog*

Not much time for watches these days - and none for tinkering. However I got bored by wearing the same three watches over and over again and so I went on ebay and apparently won this one: Not exactly a bargain, but nowhere near enough to worry about. I am looking forward to the most sporty watch in my collection.

Not watches, but movements. A parcel arrived today with a batch of 11 new 7S26 movements that we picked up with my friend at work. 10 were perfect, one had a blocked winding mechanism, something around the ratchet wheel and pawl lever, I'll try to figure out later what's wrong. The seller told me he'd run out of 7S26s, but would send me a 7S36 as a replacement. I also asked my usual seller in the Philippines to proceed with shipping as we had 12 pces in my box there. More news soon

It's so satisfying to dump the coils out all at once and the pusher spring design is simply genius.

It seems the digital camera tends to favor that kind of light is all. Cheers! mnem *silent running*

mnementh , Nice repair and I get it on the camera favoring the light and presenting a picture better than reality. How about switching over to LED? There seems to be a whole market of neon to LED conversion bulbs out there so you wouldn't even need to build the rectification / current limiting circuit yourself.

inboost - I actually considered doing so; I have this kit of LED car accent lighting I bought some time ago just because $6, not realizing it was all pumpkin orange colored. But in the end, I couldn't convince myself it would survive half a century as the NE1 bulb did. The NE1/NE2 bulb provides plenty of illumination for use in a dark room... just not enough for some spaces in our modern world full of light pollution. I also didn't like how more illumination made the whole thing look bleedy IRL like in the final pic; you are actually looking through 2 layers of 50-year-old Perspex once assembled, which are no longer perfectly clear. You can see the difference in the two pics of the illuminated dial. Cheers! mnem lit AF.

Italian vegetable tanned leather strips (cutting waste). Website photo (Slöjd-Detaljer): I'm going to have a go at strap making. I found a source of vegetable tanned leather from Sweden. I wanted to go for bigger pieces (also cutting waste) of vegetable tanned leather from Sweden, at 1,5mm-2,5mm thickness, but they were out of stock.

There is one tiny dot on the crystal near 12 and that's it. The bezel is perfect. It looks quite worn on the seller's picture, but it is just bad lightning - invisible to the naked eye. The dial is perfect, everything works smoothly and it comes with the original bracelet (a little long). Maybe it was a bargain - come to think of it...

Today I found this on a German second hand platform (former eBay Kleinanzeigen): Seiko Quartz aus Nachlass (decedent's estate) - 30EURA two tone ladies watch at first look. I was about to keep on scrolling when I noticed the pushers. What are they for? I googled the 'Cal. 6M26' on the manual and found out it is actually an alarm chronograph with so many functions that it really needs such a big manual. Some call it 'dancing hands' I learned and I had to have it. I hate the two tone strap however. Hope I can make something better out of leather some time...

I bought mine couple of months ago and almost identical story to yours. Price was also 30! Mine was without gold. Nice watch, and I think it'll be a collectible in years to come. Bracelet is actually very nice and heavy solid link! I like mine and I think for 30€ it's a steal. I hope I can get my hands on the JDM version, which is a really nice looking watch (completely different case). Mine had a badly scratched cyclops, so I ended up removing it (can't recommend doing it).
