I don't know... the depth effect is not a turn-on for me. Not that I have the funds necessary to actually buy one of these.

At the risk of being repetitive, I'm glad to have one of these coming. These are renders as the production watches won't be available until June. I think these are more attractive than Seiko's repops.

If it looks as poor as that picture then I'll not be very interested, certainly not $3k interested. They have lost all the character from the original and made it look like a modders watch, that is so disappointing

I hope none of the pre-orders feel disappointed once they have it in their hands That can be the trouble with buying without actually seeing the final article, especially when it is based around a classic like this.

Looking forward to good pictures. James Dowling ( www.ukwatches.com/introduction.html) was pretty impressed. "When Baselworld was relaunched, 3 years ago, I wondered why Seiko had 2 stands, 1 each for Seiko and Grand Seiko. Now I know, Grand Seiko now stands alone as its own brand. The watches no longer have the Seiko logo, just the Grand Seiko one." "But their loveliest watch was not a Grand Seiko, it was their almost perfect recreation of the 62MAS, only 1.9mm bigger than the original" I wish the SEIKO was applied, and that bezel looks a little glossy, but overall I'm happy I have my preorder in.

At least the 6105 hands might start becoming available? Or not...hmm. Does that mean a reissue will more than likely be on the cards. Glossy insert, printed logo, even bigger and a traffic light hand from Loy!

You won't be able to buy any parts, I can assure you of that. At least the 6105 hands might start becoming available? Or not...hmm. Does that mean a reissue will more than likely be on the cards. Glossy insert, printed logo, even bigger and a traffic light hand from Loy!

I can't figure out why MSRP is 3800 Euro To screw as much out of the buyer as they possibly can, clearly. Personally, I just don't get it. Sure, it's a decent looking watch but it sure as hell ain't €3800 worth of decent, at least not in my opinion. Like I said before, just because it's a 'limited edition' it doesn't justify this sort of price tag. Just my point of view, but I think that dolphin caseback is a huge missed opportunity - it just looks 'cheap' to me. And the hands on the cheapo version are just hideous. Even if I had the cash to spunk on either of these, I wouldn't.

It's more a symbol of a change in Seiko and that for me puts me off caring. Won't be long before a 6105 is out and just as expensive. Why the hands are different in the shots is also strange. For those people calling out for reissues because the originals were too hard to find and too expensive....well, there you go!

Well the sudden step-change price increase is disheartening. You can't blame Seiko for not conforming to a "leaked price" when the announced the MSRP. That part is fine. But the price level of $4K pre-discount seems impossible to understand. I need them to justify it better than just announce it. My SRQ021 has a black urushi dial that takes 3 weeks to complete manufacture. The 8R48 movement is the same family except a CHRONOGRAPH version for god's sake and an exhibition back. Point is this - this new SLA017 (leaked as SBDX019, no?) cannot possibly cost as much to make as the chrono I have. So how can it be $1,000 more MSRP? Pure corporate greed is my first gut reaction but I am open to changing my opinion based on any interesting information that might come our way. Web photos:
