At least six people shot, killed in Milwaukee in 24 hours
MILWAUKEE — There were at least six fatal shootings in Milwaukee in a 24-hour span over the weekend.
A 36-year-old woman was shot and killed about 9 p.m. Saturday near 40th Street and Meinecke Avenue.
While officials were at the scene, a group of musicians called the Black String Triage Ensemble started performing.
The group plays in the immediate aftermath of shootings to help those grieving.
"Music is organized according to the five stages of grief, with a sixth stage of hope included at the end. Hope or faith at the end, because if we don't believe things will be better, we don't move forward," ensemble founder Davin Hallmon said.
The group's founder said they've played at about 35 scenes since it was formed four years ago.
At 9 p.m. Friday, a 50-year-old man was killed near 65th Street and Carmen Avenue.
Less than a half hour later, someone killed a 66-year-old woman near 44th Street and Meinecke.
Then, just before 2 a.m. Saturday a man was killed near 107th Street and Brown Beer Place.
And two people were killed Saturday in a shootout at El Rey grocery store.
Complaint: Milwaukee woman charged after 6-year-old son shoots 3-year-old boy
MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee woman is facing charges after prosecutors say her son took her gun and shot a three-year-old boy she was watching.
Shelly R. Baublit, 42, is facing one felony count of neglecting a child - consequence is great bodily harm.
Milwaukee police say the three-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot near 52nd and North last weekend.
According to a criminal complaint, a detective spoke to the boy's mother on July 2, who said she was out with a friend while her aunt, identified as Baublit, watched her children at her home on 52nd St.
Around 7:30 p.m., Baublit called the mother screaming "I'm so scared" and hung up, the complaint says. The mother said she assumed it was issues with her neighbors "again." Minutes later, Baublit called the mother again and said her three-year-old son had been shot. Within minutes, the mother said she got to the house and found her son wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. According to the complaint, Baublit told the mother she did not contact the police or an ambulance because she "was so scared" and said "they taking me to jail." The mother said she then immediately took her son to the nearest hospital.
The complaint says at the time of the incident, the three-year-old boy was alone in the home with several other children as Baublit left to get food. One of the children inside the home was Baublit's six-year-old son. The mother told a detective that "something is wrong with him" and said he "always talks about guns and killing people." According to the complaint, the six-year-old witnessed his father shoot and kill their uncle a few years ago.
While on the way to the hospital, the complaint says the mother asked her three-year-old son what happened and he said he couldn't tell her because "somebody said don't say what happened."
One of the children who was inside the home during the incident told an officer that the kids were playing hide and seek when the shot went off. After the child heard the gunshot, she saw the six-year-old run from the room the 3-year-old was found in. The child also said she saw a gun in Baublit's purse earlier that day, the complaint says. Another child also said she saw the 6-year-old run from the room the 3-year-old was in.
When a detective spoke to Baublit, she said she purchased a Ruger EC9S 9 mm from a "crackhead male" three months ago for protection from her upstairs neighbor, according to the complaint. Baublit said she did not call 911 after the shooting because she panicked. She further said she left her loaded firearm in her purse in her bedroom. The firearm did not have a gun lock and both of her children knew she had a gun, the complaint said.
Once out of surgery, the three-year-old told a CPS worker that the six-year-old took Baublit's gun and said "I'm gonna shoot you" and then shot him, the complaint says.
If convicted, Baublit faces a maximum of 12.5 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. On Friday, a $2,000 signature bond was set for Baublit. She has a preliminary hearing on July 25.
This was the second shooting of a three-year-old boy in just two days in Milwaukee. A convicted felon is facing charges after prosecutors say a three-year-old got a hold of a firearm in their house and accidentally fired it, shooting himself.
The child, identified as A'kai William Stilo, later died at the hospital last week. On Thursday, prosecutors charged 28-year-old Raheem Moore with neglecting a child - consequence is death, second degree reckless homicide, and three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Video: argument leads to shooting inside busy gas station
Surveillance video shows two men shove each other, then one gets a gun and starts firing inside the gas station.
MILWAUKEE — Surveillance footage shows the moment a man started shooting at another inside a busy BP gas station over the Fourth of July weekend.
Police said the shooting happened Friday, July 1st shortly before 5 p.m. at the BP gas station on 12th Street and Highland Avenue.
WISN 12 News obtained surveillance footage exclusively from the gas station that shows two men start arguing inside. At one point the men get into a shoving match.
"Go and get your pistol then," said one of the men to the other.
That man then storms out of the gas station, as another unsuspecting woman walks in.
Moments later, the man returns with the gun and starts shooting at the man he was arguing with, narrowly missing the innocent bystander.
The shooter, who police said is Reginald Adams, 40, fires off ten rounds inside the station.
According to detectives, the two men are cousins. Police said Adams took the gun from the victim's car outside.
Surveillance footage shows the shooter hit the victim at least once, as the victim drips blood on the floor.
Police said the video then shows Adams run out of the gas station. The victim takes off as well.
Milwaukee Police Department said Adams then gets in the victim's car and chases after him, as the victim runs towards the nearby hospital.
Police said Adams fired off multiple rounds from inside the car towards the victim outside before taking off.
MPD said they later discovered the victim's car abandoned near MacArthur Square's parking lot entrance.
Police said they spotted Adams walking down a street two days later and arrested him.
He is currently in jail on homicide and recklessly endangering safety charges.
Police later spoke to the victim in the hospital, where he was recovering from being shot in the chest, forearm, buttocks and thigh.
The gas station owner said they are working to increase security.

Surveillance footage shows a group of people start fighting, then shooting at each other.
MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Police Department says two people are in the hospital after a large gunfight.
It happened outside the Citgo gas station at 65th Street and Silver Spring Drive just before 6 p.m. Tuesday night.
Surveillance footage WISN 12 News obtained from the gas station shows the brawl from two angles.
Once the fight begins, the video footage shows two armed males in black hoodies start shooting at two other males in white hoodies wrestling on the ground.
One of the males in a white hoodie is holding two guns, one in each hand, as the other male in a white hoodie is on top of him. At one point, the armed male shoots both his guns at the other male, all while the other two armed males are shooting at them.
Seconds later, one of the armed males in a black hoodie walks over to the wrestling males, shoots the male on top point blank in the head, then runs away.
The other people in the group, including the other two armed males, also take off.

Milwaukee man shot at neighbor 3 times over parking, prosecutors say
MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee man is accused of shooting at a neighbor more than a dozen times over a parking dispute this summer.
Prosecutors say 32-year-old Remington Burage got out of prison last year and was ordered to not possess any guns. Now, he's back in jail.
According to prosecutors, Burage was peeved at a neighbor about where they parked to the point of shooting at them on more than one occasion. One incident was caught on surveillance video.
Police responded to a ShotSpotter report near 28th and Ruby on June 1. A criminal complaint says the victim flagged down officers and said his neighbor had shot at him "over a parking space." The victim said he legally parks on the street, but Burage doesn't like it, as the victim often parks in front of or near Burage's home. The argument became heated, and the victim said Burage pulled a gun and pointed it at him as he ran away. He said he saw bullets hitting the ground as he ran. Burage fled the scene in an SUV.
Prosecutors say 14 9mm casings were recovered at the scene, and this incident was caught on camera. The victim identified Burage in a photo lineup.
The next day, on June 2, the victim said he returned home from work and parked across from Burage's home. Soon, Burage came outside, holding a firearm, prosecutors say. He asked the victim, "You still on that stuff from yesterday?" The victim replied, "Of course. You shot at me." Burage then left in an SUV.
An investigation revealed Burage was on Department of Corrections supervision with a listed address near 28th and Ruby. A search warrant was executed on June 7. Burage wasn't home, the complaint says, but items belonging to him were found in the home, along with 9 mm ammunition and a woman with a handgun in her purse.
On July 17, another ShotSpotter alert sent officers back to the neighborhood, where two children told investigators they heard someone say, "I should've killed you the first time," followed by a shot. The victim said he was shot at while he went to a corner store. He said Burage pulled up and said, "Do you remember me? Police went into my house and got guns and drugs. It wasn't that serious. You didn't need to call the cops. The 14 shots were a warning. You could've kept it in the streets and shot back at me. I've been following you, and I know where you work."
During the discussion, the victim told investigators Burage was displaying a gun before driving off. Then, near Atkinson, he fired one time, the complaint says. A spent 10 mm casing was recovered.
Burage in court
In all, Burage is charged with five counts:
First-degree recklessly endangering safety, use of a dangerous weapon Stalking, use of a dangerous weapon Endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon Possession of a firearm by a felon (2 counts)
Prosecutors noted in the complaint Burage was convicted in 2016 of possession with intent to deal heroin. Online court records show an arrest warrant was issued in this latest case in late July.
Burage made his initial court appearance on Aug. 18, and a court commissioner set his cash bond at $25,000 – a figure he said he "can't afford."
I guess he was used to those $1,000 bails they had been handing out for years in the catch and release liberal courts here until that one Northsider phuked it for all of the other thugs and criminals in the city when he went and ran over 60 people and killed 6 more in the suburbs while fleeing from police after beating his girlfriend while out on $1,000 bail for the same thing.
"Sir, you cannot possess any firearms. It’s a really simple order. But so many people have trouble following it. Any time you possess a gun, you’re a walking Class G felony," said Court Commissioner Grace Flynn.
Burage is due back in court on Aug. 24 for a preliminary hearing.

8 shot in Milwaukee Monday, 2 killed
MILWAUKEE - The week got off to a violent start in Milwaukee with eight people shot Monday, Sept. 19. Two of them died.
There were seven shootings Monday and only two people arrested. Police said those two people shot each other. The youngest victim was just 16, and he lost his life as a result of the violence.
"We didn’t even know there was a body on our block," said Lakeisha McClain. "Like, OK?"
McClain was shaken after learning what was found inside the house across the street.
"It’s just sad," said McClain. "That’s all I can say."
Police said a Milwaukee boy, 16, was found shot to death in a vacant home near 38th and Hadley around 10 a.m.
Neighbors said the house has been empty for months. Online property records show it was sold to an Ohio-based property company in July.
"I feel sorry for the parents and the family," said McClain. "I think it’s horrible. Horrible. Who does that? But it’s the way of the world."
McClain has lived along 38th Street between Hadley and Center for decades and said she's never been this close to a homicide.
"It don’t happen on this block, that’s the thing," said McClain. "We stick to ourselves. We all mind our own business. It just doesn’t happen. It was kind of sad to us. We’re kind of devastated."
The boy found on 38th Street was just one of eight shooting victims in Milwaukee between midnight and 1:30 p.m. Monday.
Just after midnight, a woman, 23, was shot near 27th and Capitol.
There were two shootings around 2 a.m. A man, 35, was shot near 77th and Hampton. A Milwaukee man, 56, showed up at the hospital after being shot near 20th and Clarke.
A Hartford man, 26, was shot near 78th and Custer Avenue around 9 a.m. Monday. (Hartford is 40 miles away from the city so he was obviously on the Northside buying drugs)
The shooting of the 16-year-old on McClain's block happened shortly thereafter.
Around noon, a man was shot to death near 17th and Clarke.
Two Milwaukee men, ages 22 and 24, were shot and arrested near 60th and Keefe around 1 p.m.
Milwaukee police online crime data show homicides up 20% from 2021, which was a record year. That also doesn't include the two people killed Monday.

Video: Men fire dozens of shots into house
At least 40 bullets holes in house and windows with another half dozen in a car parked outside
Milwaukee police are looking for the men who fired dozens of bullets into a house early Wednesday morning near 27th and Ruby Avenue on the city’s north side.
Surveillance video shows two cars rolling up just after midnight Wednesday.
At least six men appear to shoot from the vehicles, with several of them jumping out to open fire.
They quickly speed south down the alley towards Atkinson Avenue.
The license plates are too fuzzy to make out, but police are hoping someone recognizes the cars, or more importantly, the men opening fire.
On Monday, there could be seen at least 40 bullet holes in the house and windows, with another half dozen striking a car parked outside.
Milwaukee police said the house was occupied at the time, but no one was injured.
"It's very concerning, because I've got my grandchild here too," said neighbor Diane Scott.
"I heard it. I heard it loud and clear. I knew what was going on. They was out here acting a fool as usual. They always shooting over here. Always. It's almost like an everyday thing here," Scott said.
She said she's concerned especially for her 12-year-old grandson, that he could be hit with indiscriminate gunfire.
"They don't care. They don't care. They do not care. They could care less," she said.
Milwaukee police said they have no one in custody, and therefore don't have a motive for the shooting.

Party bus struck by gunfire in Milwaukee after Morgan Wallen concert
MILWAUKEE — A Lou's Limo party bus taking people from the Morgan Wallen concert back to the Green Bay area Saturday night was struck by gunfire.
Milwaukee police said shots were fired at about 11:50 p.m. during a fight on 35th Street near Clybourn Street.
A residence and the party bus were struck.
"It was like a movie," Lou's Limos co-owner and driver Mitch Landvick said Monday. "All of a sudden I heard a gunshot and told everyone to get down."
One bullet hit Landvick's bus with 12 passengers inside. He said it busted through a window on one side of the bus and shot out the other side. Along the way, that bullet hit seats where passengers were sitting just seconds prior.
"I think bottom line is we're just extremely grateful to be home with our loved ones," one passenger said. "We're giving our loved ones extra squeezes and being more appreciated of the time we have with them."
Milwaukee police are looking for the shooters, but the incident has Lou's Limos rethinking its future routes.
FAKE NEWS to the MAX
There is no way if you are at Miller Park (now AMFAM Field) that you would end up on 35th and Wisconsin Ave trying to get on the freeway to get back to Green Bay.
If you don't know the area or the people or the culture and you hear about some shit on the "News" you tend to believe it is the truth because it came from a "Legitimate" news outlet.
Party bus hit by gunfire after Morgan Wallen concert in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE — A group of friends from the Green Bay area says they were mere inches away from being shot on a party bus while heading home Saturday from the Morgan Wallen concert.
Milwaukee police say the shooting happened shortly before midnight near 35th and Wisconsin. During a fight, an unknown suspect fired several shots. A home and the party bus were struck in the crossfire.
Police say at this time, no one reported being struck by the gunfire.
The limo company, Lou's Limos LLC, was driving 12 concertgoers from Green Bay.
One of the passengers named Alex says the memorable night at American Family Field ended with an encounter they will never forget.
“We were all just shaken up and wondering what the hell just happened,” she said.
Alex says they rented a party bus to ride to and from the concert since it was two hours away.
Alex’s friend Shaina says they were just about to get onto the interstate to leave Milwaukee when people in two cars next to them started arguing. Suddenly, their bus was caught in the middle near 35th and Wisconsin.
Alex says her husband saw a man hanging out of a passenger window with a gun, so he told everyone on the party bus to get on the floor. Seconds later, Alex says shots were flying.
"I heard four shots like ‘pop, pop, pop, pop’ and one bullet went straight through the bus,” she said.
Alex says that the bullet smashed through the back window of the bus before it pierced through a seat cushion where their friend was sitting.
“How close were you to being shot?” TMJ4 reporter Ben Jordan asked.
"If [my husband] wasn't attentive and telling us to get down and if our driver didn't handle it professionally, things could have definitely ended differently,” she said.
Alex says she immediately called 911 once the bus came to a halt. Milwaukee police say bullets also struck a nearby apartment building, but no one was hurt.
Alex thinks her husband may have saved their lives.
"I think the biggest thing for me is going down to a concert which I thought would be an excellent night and a great day with my friends and not really being aware of my surroundings and then realizing, 'wow, this happened to us’. You never think it would happen to you,” she said.
Mitch Landvick, the co-owner of Lou's Limos and the driver of the bus that night recalled the moment he saw the shooting unravel: "As soon as I heard a gunshot, I just hit the gas, and as soon as I did that, there was a couple cars that collided in front of me. I didn't really realize we were hit for a while."
Saturday night's scare causing him and other co-owner, Dawn Dionne, to take a step back, and remove night trips to Milwaukee from their itinerary.
"We will not go back at night," said Dionne. "It's not worth it. We both work full-time jobs, this is just some extra income for us, and something that we enjoy doing, but it's not worth anybody's life."
Dionee and Landvick say their business is on pause as they begin the costly process of repairing the damages on their bus, which is estimated to cost thousands of dollars.
Both owners shared that community support has been tremendous, and they are thankful the situation was nothing more than a close-call.
Milwaukee police are seeking unknown suspect(s). Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-Tips or P3 Tips.

Car slams into school bus outside Milwaukee middle school
MILWAUKEE - Two boys, ages 15 and 11, were hurt when a reckless driver slammed a stolen Kia into a school bus outside Milwaukee's Morse Middle School Monday morning near 76th and Green Tree Road.
Police said the crash happened around 9 a.m.
Video (below) shows a car that is being driven recklessly slam into the school bus. Kids in the car were hanging out of the vehicle's windows. FOX6 News froze the video at the time of impact – because it is graphic.
Police said several people in the stolen vehicle ran from the scene. A 15-year-old boy who was in the vehicle was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. An 11-year-old boy who was on the school bus was also taken to the hospital.
"Recklessness, not caring who they hurt. That is what I saw today," said Therese Nelson, who witnessed the crash and called 911. "I never leave until my child gets through them doors because you never know what could go on."
Police say they are looking for the other people involved. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 414-224-Tips or P3 Tips. Milwaukee Public Schools statement
Stephen Davis, Media Relations Manager
"This morning, a reckless driving situation resulted in an incident outside of Morse Middle School during arrival. The incident resulted in injuries to an individual riding in the vehicle that was driving recklessly. Damage was caused to multiple parked vehicles, including a school bus. One individual who was exiting the bus at the time of the collision was also injured.
"Staff immediately worked to get everyone inside the building and contacted the police.
"MPS is taking proactive measures to keep our sites safe while reckless driving continues to be an issue in the community. This school year, MPS has placed hundreds of concrete bollards at our buildings and added other measures like fence posts, barricades, and cameras to our properties.
"We have also been actively working with representatives from the city and public safety partners to see how we can work together to identify areas that can be mitigated.
"While we are doing everything we can to enhance safety at our sites, we hope members of the community can understand the full impact of this issue. Reckless driving is dangerous, and we must work together to share this message with students. Adults can help by talking to children about safe driving and the consequences regarding dangerous behavior."
