A few fun notes about this specific model... The 6117-6010 world timer replaced the 6217-7010 in 1968. For the first few months of 1968, the early 6010's appear to have retained the cities bezel from the previous 7010 version. Then in April of 1968, we got this 3rd revision. The changes: - GMT is added as its own Time Zone position on the ring
- London is stacked with Paris-Rome at the same Time Zone position
- Dharan replaces Reunion
- Mexico City replaced Chicago
- Buenos Aires replaces Santiago
- DL (The International Date Line indicator) is now colored, blue on the black bezel and red on the silver bezel
- Total Cities: 27 + GMT = 28
This third version of the bezel is also the introduction of the so-called "Error Bezel". This is where the reference cities have GMT and London marked as different time zones, instead of stacked one above the other in the same time zone (or just not listing GMT at all). This is in fact correct and not an error. In 1968, England (re)implemented British Summer Time (BST), effectively shifting London to GMT+1 during the summer months. This was something that England had done in the past. Click here to read more. BST was effective from October 1968 through October 1971, and is accurately reflected on this and future bezels. According to my math, this specific black bezel variant is the second rarest, accounting for at most 3% of all examples in the 6217 and 6117 world timer range. I believe this bezel version was created to correspond with the Olympic Games, held in Mexico City in 1968 - replacing Chicago with Mexico City. cd_god - I suspect you will have some pretty epic adventures off the grid with our world traveler, especially if you have a bump key set - even if you don't have to use them - because all of the doors you open will have (allegedly) already been unlocked - I can't wait to see the pics!

Next (major) stop, the Grand Canyon, via Williams AZ. I had to make this trip before sending the watch on - it’s one of the Natural Wonders of the world, and a 3 hour drive (one way)…. So we hit the road yesterday morning. It’s a pretty quick trip (for me) out of Phoenix, northbound. I tried to get some shots driving, and most didn’t turn out well. I will share a few anyways. Here I am trying to get the Saguaro’s in the distance… (my camera wanted to focus on my HUD) They look tiny in those shots, but they are probably 10-25ft tall each there. Once out of the desert, you drive through some high plains kind of grass lands for a while. As documented in this blurry photo (but you can see the watch!) And by the time we got to our first stop, there are trees and quite a lot of snow. Ok enough of the blurry driving photos for now. Here is Williams AZ. It is a small town founded in 1881 by a trapper / mountain man “Old Bill Williams”. It is mainly just a tourist stop on the way to the Grand Canyon, but Route 66 also runs right through its small downtown, and that was my main interest in visiting with our World Traveler. Route 66 is one of the most famous roads in American pop-culture, starting in Chicago Illinois and ending up in Santa Monica California. It runs right through the small downtown here. We parked at the Police Station at the entrance to town and walked up and down the street. And doing a 180, this way into town. Just about everything here is Route 66 themed Wrist check with street sign, yep, Route 66 It's even on the house address plates / numbers It was a 2 hour drive from Phoenix, and a good stop for restrooms and refuel + coffee. I also found a good Route 66 sticker for the travel notebook here Then back outside And with those last two shots I think you have seen just about the whole town I did stop into a few tourist-y stores…. Here Elvis wanted to tell my fortune… It was amazingly nice out - a cool 45-50 degrees sunshine and no wind. Still lots of this kind of stuff we NEVER see in the desert Ok, the Grand Canyon is about 50 minutes from Williams, so we hit the road again. All snow from here to the goal line Here’s the entrance to the park Elevation 6772 in case you were wondering Next stop, lunch…

Once in the canyon, we made our way to the El Tovar Hotel (a few mile drive once inside the park) for a quick lunch. This is the oldest hotel still operating within the park - opened in 1905. It is right on the rim of the canyon and always a fun stop. Lots of famous/important people have stayed here, including many US Presidents: Theodore Roosevelt, Gerald Ford, Herbert Hoover, George H. W. Bush, Dwight Eisenhower, Calvin Coolidge and Bill Clinton. Other famous guests include Albert Einstein, Liz Taylor, Oprah and Paul McCartney. El Tovar is also a US National Historic Landmark. … Hold on, as we are RIGHT there, I had to grab a quick first look at the Canyon Down below is the trail to hike down into the canyon for those so inclined. It is not for the faint of heart or those not in good shape. You can make out Indian Garden down there (the greenish line just above the snow). It was renamed Havasupai Gardens in 2022, as apparently the previous name was offensive... Ok, now back to El Tovar… Some rustic décor invites you in the lobby If you ever wondered what it might look like to be trampled by a moose, while wearing a Seiko World Timer…. I think it might be something like this: We had a table within 15 minutes, and you can just make out the Canyon from here The food is NOT the attraction here. Still worth it for the experience in my book Back outside, we dropped into the Hopi House. This was built at the same time as El Tovar and is right next door…. Here’s a poor photo from the back side: And some shots inside. My goal here was again a sticker or something like that for our travel log book (which I did find!) One more quick look at the Canyon from here, then on to some other vantage points Back in the car, the only way out is through the train station, just below the hotel I believe this train runs through Williams (our earlier stop). ... Next stop Mathers Point - THE most touristy part, and where everyone ends up when first entering the park.

No one would want to find themselves in the middle of a Mad Max-like apocalypse in their (very) expensive truck, to then learn that the magnetic deadbolts or the electromagnetic pulse protection were over sold.
Did you know that you can open fire safes that have the electronic keypad locks with a magnet?
Hopefully they use better technology on the truck.

The first major stop when you enter the park is Mather Point. The Visitor’s Center is here, as are all of the bus drop offs for tourists arriving en masse. We were very fortunate this time to have a pretty empty park and beautiful weather. Last week it was snow storms - and very cold. So we dropped into Mather Point for a few shots of the Canyon. BTW each stop along the south rim offers a different view / angle, and we will be going point to point through several here. I wrote WRIST SUSHI in the snow, though it’s not super easy to make out…. Maybe the thought that counts ?! With some actual forethought or planning I probably should have found an embankment for a better angle on my “write it in the snow idea”. Oh well…. Above is the best I got this time That was all I could take of Mather Point. As I mentioned earlier the parks was pretty empty - but there were still A LOT of people there. So on to the next stop. Oh, hey, here’s a female Elk hanging out on the side of the road - I guess to say hi? Next vantage is Grandview Point… Next was Moran Point Another bit of very common wildlife in the park, these very large ravens. Then Lepan Point (this is my favorite vantage point on the South Rim) If you have good eyes you would have spotted the Colorado River a few times already - here’s a clear shot of it And little bit of history for anyone interested (zoom in to read it) Finally we arrived at Desert View watch tower. Google says the tower closes at 5pm. We arrived at 4:40pm to learn that they shut the tower down at 4:30pm! Grrrr…. The gift shop is still open, but we missed the top level access. There are still views inside And outside But as the day carried on the packed snow areas were turning to ice. It is not a great feeling walking on ice in normal shoes at the edge of the Grand Canyon… With that, we jumped back in the car, and took the East Exit out of the park and into Navajo country…. Next stop, the reservation…

When you leave the South Rim out the east side of the park, you get to see the Grand Canyon become the “Little Colorado”. It was impossible to get photos while driving, but it is essentially a dramatic single-level canyon, where you see the Colorado River cut through the landscape, before entering the park. This is Indian land, so we stopped at one point to attempt a picture of the little Colorado, and buy some touristy stuff…. In case you didn’t know… now you know Snow when looking the other way And one final shot, heading back toward Flagstaff AZ at dusk An 11 hour round trip all counted…. And a lot of fun

And one more small addition to the "box" - a small coin purse. For extra credit: For those in the US, throw in a Statehood quarter for your state (if you have one) - I'm still looking for an AZ one. Also if you have a coin from 1969 or prior (the year this watch was made) that is not already in there - add that - or if you have one in better condition than one already in there - swap it out! For anyone outside of the US - any small coin(s) would be a fun addition. Double credit for ones dated 1969 or prior!

Nice Pics.
Hope you enjoyed the adventure.
Is that the new Pokemon Go game: Space Invaders Go?
Since you got a firsthand look at it do you do you think it was made by an iceberg, I mean "glacier", or by an Alien ray from outer space?
You know Mars has a Grand Canyon too.
Jus' Sayin'
That Raven is giving you the "Evil Eye"
Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling, By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore. “Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven, Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the Nightly shore— Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!” Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore.”
And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door; And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming, And the lamplight o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor; And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted—nevermore!

cd_god - ha, yes like Space Invaders, only in your Heads-up Display to keep you awake. It was hard to get the phone to focus either on my watch or the view out the window - it kept auto-selecting the HUD display instead. It was a great trip, and extra fun to do it with our World Traveler. As for how the canyon got there... maybe some huge underground aquifers that froze causing mass erosion? Or maybe big lasers and aliens? I did not know about the Mars version - I'd try and book a spot on the next mission to Mars for our daring World Timer - but that would be a one way trip, so not ideal... The raven was definitely keeping tabs on me. These birds speak to me - I really enjoy my time around them. They are smart and engaging - and much larger than they appear in the photos.

Today was the first day of the Phoenix Open, a professional golf tournament on the PGA tour. It's held every year in Scottsdale Arizona at the TPC golf course - and always in January or February if memory serves. The big sponsor is Waste Management, so you see WM Phoenix Open all over everything. The event runs all week. Monday (today) and Tuesday are free entry days. Here is the fee schedule otherwise: This is the 88th Phoenix Open, and the 36th time it will be played at the TPC Scottsdale. Winner takes home $3.6m USD On the way through security we have the Phoenix Open clock, at the end of a row of portable bathrooms: It looks like they will be expanding this already massive venue: Here's the walk into the 18th hole: And some golfers practicing.... First stop is the Fan Shop... Need some kind of memento for this stop. This place is almost entirely hats and apparel... We were able to source a sticker for the log book... Now to find our way to the 16th hole... A much longer walk than I was anticipating. Along the way I thought it fitting to snap a few cactus pictures. A bird's nest... A saguaro... Prickly Pear... See the Rabbits freeloading in the distance? There it is, the 16th hole... Now how to get there... On the way we walked past more golfers practicing at the 11th hole Then we made our way up into the box seats... What a nice place to be: Some style shots of the logo and our World Traveler In the distance, some serious putting going on And a look around this deck before being told by security that we weren't allowed to be here... Apparently golfer's families only. Well then I guess that was extra fun! Back outdoors with the riff-raff, we made our way to the entrance / tunnel. The 16th hole is completely surrounded by these stands, and the golfers enter here: We have the 15th green behind us here, with the big WM logo - another great photo op You could easily wonder around for hours here... The scoreboards are co-sponsored by Mastercard and Rolex: And then on our way back out there was a lot full of carts that I suppose are for the players / crew with names printed on each Back in the car, an interesting statue by the Scottsdale Airpark - this is where most of the private jets fly in and out They have started to put Super Bowl signs up everywhere - even though the AZ Cardinals Stadium (where the Super Bowl will be played) is 30 miles away from the TPC Finally, rolling back into the neighborhood, another egret was hanging out at the 5th hole of our golf course

FWIW, this is a pretty ruckus event, not the kind of whisper as the ball is rolling thing you see on TV. Here's some highlights from years past - right where we were, at the 16th hole:

Tonight's service included a couple glasses of this excellent red blend. Part Shiraz/Syrah, part Mourvedre and Grenache. Expertly crafted. That while watching the (nearly) full moon rise over the hills to the east

As always dapellegrini that's some fantastic watch companionship and sight seeing, well done!
Hmmm, Waste Management sponsoring a Golf event? Any bets on that golf course once being a land fill?
Back in my competition days we called a golf course a waste of a perfectly good rifle range

I always thought it was an odd sponsorship... but then did you see all of those portable toilets... they definitely have the Waste Management angle covered There are some golf courses built over old landfills, but I do not believe the TPC is one of them... Scottsdale is a bit too high brow for that - they would have the landfill excavated and dropped in the next town over before putting a golf course on it

Tonight Lebron James hit 38,388 total career points, becoming the all time highest scoring player ever in the NBA, taking Kareem Abdul Jabbar's spot at the top, which Kareem had held for 39 years! Our World Traveler was watching with me... some terrible shots - it happened after 10pm here... A quick scan, and it appears that the top 50 scoring records in the NBA have all been set in the life time of our World Traveler: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Basketball_Association_career_scoring_leaders
