First a little background. This is the watch that will be making the trip this time around: And here is what we know about this watch. It was purchased on Ebay in January of 2023 (by me) from a seller in Colorado. The seller confirms that this was an Estate sale find, from the estate of a Japanese family. No other information is known about the history of this watch - so this is our starting point. Its first stop is with me in Arizona. Next stop will be with inboost for a proper service before continuing on to the others on the list, which I will keep updated here: Hosts:- dapellegrini - USA/AZ - inboost - USA/NC - 69ChevelleSS - USA/NY - cd_god - Off the Grid - saldog - USA/SOCA - Groundhog66 - USA/NOCA - rainier - USA/WA - russtmurray - Canada/Calgary - tempelkim - EU/Germany - trilo - Finland - tritto - AU - camrok - AU - Rod - AU - rossr - AU/Western - leffemonster - UK - appumaster - India/Calcutta

To get things organized, I have received a nice travel case, some additional seatbelt two-part straps, an OEM replacement crystal and a leather bound notebook to accompany the watch in its travels: In celebration of the start of our event, my first act was to have a drink of some top shelf brown liquid, with our watch as company... (this is catch up from the planning thread) Now this particular single malt scotch was purchased as a xmas present for a family member who lives out of state. After purchase I learned just how complicated it is to send alcohol across state lines in the US - and in the face of extreme shipping complexities opted to purchase (for direct shipment) a second bottle, direct from the Macallan... This left me as the (happy) benefactor of a great bottle. We opened it for my son's 21st birthday, and I don't think it will last much longer!

This week in Arizona is Car Week. This is the week that the major car auction houses descend on Scottsdale with some pretty extraordinary inventory to sell to those who have the cash to play. The biggest auction is Barrett Jackson, which is a bit like a trip to Disneyland - you have to park a couple of miles away and take a bus in. Entry includes airport like security - and tickets are progressively more expensive the closer to the weekend you get. There is a chance we will be there tomorrow - though in full disclosure it is not my favorite event of car week, and not something I do every year. Traditionally there are 3 other car auctions that I absolutely love attending. Post Covid that count is now two (Gooding and Co have gone to an online format) - so RM and Bonhams. RM is hosted at the Biltmore hotel - a resort in central Phoenix, which is a Frank Lloyd Wright architectural gem. Viewing the cars is free, but only in odd business hours in the middle of the week - likely to keep the working class lookyloo's away. I got quite a few sets of photos with cars and our World Timer... First I should mention that the Biltmore Hotel is adjacent to the Wriggle Manson - this is an old building from the early 1900's - where the Wriggle family (of chewing gum fame) lived. Some poor pictures of it here in the background behind the power lines, taken from the parking garage: And one more try from ground level - it's back behind those palm trees somewhere: As for the cars, well they had many of my favorites - this one should be recognizable even when blurry - the Porsche Carerra GT - often referred to as the CGT - a lot of folks believe this is the best sounding car in the world The best angle on this Zagoto edition Aston Martin (in my opinion) is from the back And one of my all time favorite cars at any price point, a Spyker, looking stunning in yellow Just look at that interior The Biltmore hotel itself here in the distance And again here at the entry And here's a random spectator's red whale tail - with Wriggle Mansion in the background on the small hilltop I've seen many LaFerrari's, but never in blue And my Favorite F-car with a plastic back window, the F40 White P-car... 959. If you know, you know And the Japanese Legend... After the CGT, considered to have one of the best engine sounds - actually tuned with (I believe) a renowned japanese musician from Yamaha, or something like that The poster car of my childhood, the Countach - this is the special 25th anniversary edition, sans-spoiler And a Diablo, since it was right next to it another very spendy P-car, in yellow. Lightweight.. again - if you know, you know (AKA car nerd car) And what I believe is the most beautiful Lambo of all time, the Muira, here in blue An F-car, 599 GTO - another nerd reference car... Ah, and some americana... Cobra anyone? This one is likely to go for a lot of $$$ And a ZL1 For the same kind of money as the cobra AND from the same year as our brave and currently wounded world timer! 1969 Ok, I need a breather before posting more photos... Next stop was Bonhams Auctions, about 20 minutes away...

inboost - your service desk looks like a 5-star resort and spa to this tired world timer.... I might hold on to her for another week or two - we have Super Bowl here in a couple weeks, and I have yet to make it to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, visit Indian Ruins, etc... Some of that might need to be for a part two!

What's up with all of the patio heaters?
It's snowing here and we aren't using any patio heaters.
Jus' Sayin'
I had a customer come in a couple of years back and buy 3 of those in AUGUST.
Lucky for them we kept them down for sale all year long for some reason (unlike the woman who wanted a bag of mulch in January down from the top pallet racking outside in the snow for her "cat" or the woman who wanted a bag of wood burning furnace pellets down for her "rabbit" in July)
They said they had friends from Arizona visiting and it was going to be in the 60°'s that night

Ha - super good eyes - yes there were patio heaters everywhere. I mean come on! It was like 62 degrees! Honestly it was nice each time I accidentally ended up under one. . EDIT: Like SUPER nice - especially for those spending north of $1m on a car...

SeikoFreek - There was a modern Ford GT at RM... Not to worry though, today was Barrett Jackson, and they have quite a few GTs, though only one Pantera... Hang with me here, and there should be some photos to follow. We decided to try our luck and were able to find a parking spot a little closer to the event - so we didn't have to take a bus. This meant a very long walk across an ugly gravel parking lot and under some high tension power lines. Not the most flattering first impressions for the venue.... Once through security, here's the front entrance Tickets get progressively more expensive the closer you get to the weekend. Today was $50/ea. It's hard to communicate the scale of this event. It is really massive, and impossible to capture in photos. Here's a directory they put up for those that got lost: There is literally something here for everyone. It feels like 25% of the indoor space is filled with vendors selling things that are not even car related... more on that below. Here are a few things I chose to take pictures of... First BMW's new limo / 7-series. I was worried my camera would break if I tried to take a photo of the hideous front profile, but inside is another story. Touch screens everywhere, and a long TV monitor for the back seat passengers: Even on the doors A theme at this years show seemed to be apocalypse trucks ... These "Military meets Luxury" VENGEANCE trucks greet you as you enter the main / first tent: These EARTHROAMERS apparently go for around $800k USD Who knows what this WAR / WARLORD might go for, I believe it is up for auction But if none of that gets your testosterone going... maybe the APOCALYPSE will? Also up for auction... For those of the "Make Love Not War" stance, they have that covered too! Here's a very bright and cheerful VW Bus (0-60 time is... yes, eventually) A pink P-Car This CANNA-BUS sold for $19k USD For the more zen types, there was this wood paneled van If you like American muscle, it seems like that is 70% of the inventory, and I am not sure there is a better example than the Demon: Make that two Demons This Pantera is making an argument as well: And perhaps a little more sports car than muscle, there were many Ford GTs... here are some: That gulf livery version is owned by John Mayer And some newer ones: Various other things: Oh, a very cool Nardo Gray F40

But that's not all! Here's the back end of a couple Roadrunners: New Lincoln future car: an all original Supra Turbo Targa: A T-top Grand National (There were A LOT of Grand Nationals) This one of 20 Lambo Many gullwings Whewww.... Are you sick of cars yet? Well how about a helicopter? A boat? A fur coat? Or a life-size golden bull? Or Horse, or other things .... maybe fake Cacti are your thing? A fun first for me, a Porsche Tractor.... And look at the price it sold for!

Events on the horizon:
- The Phoenix Open Golf Tournament - Feb 6 - 12. I don't have tickets or plan to... but I might creep the entrance and the side events - The Super Bowl - Feb 12 - Also no tickets to this one, but also might creep around the venue and side events And perhaps at some point before that a few more Arizona-Type adventures...
