I don't understand this at all.... It's a complete mystery to me, total gibberish. Fortunately, we have our very own American at work, so I asked him. He didn't understand a word of it either! So I've got to ask, what is a "skunk streak"? What are "light rolls" and how do you "shorted $20" in them? What are "enders"? What are "boxes"? What are "40%ers"? I guess a "1964" is a coin from 1964, but why is that special? I finally got some good boxes after a 10 box skunk streak and shorted $20 in light rolls. I didn't even spot the enders at first because I was expecting another skunk streak.
1 box left over from Friday had 2 1964's and 2 40%ers.
4 boxes yesterday.
2 boxes each had 2 enders.
1st box had 2 1964's and 14 40%ers.
2nd box had 1 1964 and 13 40%ers.

OK...... did a quick skim read, boxes, rolls, 40%ers, I got it. "shorted", "light roll" = short changed? Still not sure what an Ender is though, "The coin on the end of a roll"....I don't get it? Skunk streak = winning streak, or losing streak? Josh has a lingo all of his own, poetic, but a bit slithy toves and mimsy borogroves to me...

Actually all of those are industry terms among collectors like back hacking, cushion case, trip lock conversion, etc. A light roll (like a light bag of weed that is underweight) means you got shorted a coin or even 5 whole rolls in one box 40%er is a 1965-1970 Kennedy half dollar (or 1971-1978S Ike dollar that was released in a plastic holder from the mint) as it contains 40% silver. A 90%er is a 1964 Kennedy half dollar or any US dime, quarter, half dollar, or dollar 1964 or before as they contain 90% silver. An ender is a good coin showing on the end of a roll. 50 rolls per box, 2 ends per roll. I average 1 silver coin in either 40% or 90% per box. So the odd of that 1 coin being and ender is 1 in 100,000. So if you find an ender it is usually a sign that there is more silver in the box. Skunk streak is the number of boxes in a row you get without finding any silver.

My biggest question is this........ What kind of idiots DONT see a Walking Liberty 1/2 dollar or the like at the end of a 1/2 dollar roll? 99% of the time you never find any Silver in the banks is because the tellers grab em up when they see them!

Thanks for the explanation. A couple of things I still don't quite get though... Don't you just get a random selection of coins in the box? So, what connection is there between the enders and the rest of the coins? None? And, isn't there some way of getting the problem of being 'shorted' by the bank solved? They can't just rip you off surely? OK...... did a quick skim read, boxes, rolls, 40%ers, I got it. "shorted", "light roll" = short changed? If you get shorted you just have to bend over and take it.
Unless you open the box in front of them at the bank there is no way to prove it.
Even if they were to give you the missing money the next time you went in to get a box they would tell you to piss off since they don't have to order for you. Most banks even charge you $3.50 - $5 to order a box of coin in additional to charging you 10% to cash it back in. That is why I buy donuts and pizza for my main banks that don't charge. We have a sort of unspoken agreement.
The coins that go into the box come from the counting machines in the banks. A customer comes in with a coffee can of coins and they dump them in the machine. The carrier pickup up the bag of coin from the bank and dumps it into a hopper at their location and rolls and boxes it.
The only way silver gets into the mix is if an old lady cashes them in who has been holding them since the 1960's, an old person dies and their kids clean out the house and dump all of the change they find sitting around at the bank, a burglar steals someones coin collection and dumps them at the bank rather than getting caught trying to sell them to a pawn shop, or kids steal coins from their parents collection and spend them. When you find a silver in a box it is usually more than one based on the above reason. If an old person had $10 in silver along with $50 in non silver the $500 bag from the bank that contains their $60 in coin will usually stay together once it gets rolled at the carrier.
So if you see an ender that means your usual 1 /100,000 odds reduced significantly as the $10 / 20 coins from the old lady in there.
Every so often you get a monster box which is a large pile in one box.

OK, up to speed now, thanks for the low down. We don't have this phenomenon in the UK as they change the coins every five mins. I do have a habit of checking the #'s on my bank notes while queuing at the checkout, just in case I have all sixes or something crazy.

The price of silver is certainly taking a shit.....What do you suppose was the cause of this spike, back in 2011?

Josh, are those uncirculated? No, bullion. There are 3 grades of silver eagles. Proof (proof finish and S mintmark for San Francisco) Uncirculated (matte circulated finish W mint mark for West Point) And bullion (matte circulated finish no mint mark minted at both the West Point and San Francisco) The TPG's (3rd party grading services) have made a business of adding a mint mark to the label of bullion eagles to create artificial demand. The only way to tell where a bullion eagle was minted is if you have an unopened monster box direct from the mint with the ship from address on it. The rest of the world has to take the TPG's word for it that the unmarked coin in the holder is really from where they say it is.

Nice one Josh, what's the value of a win like that? In today's manipulated down market it is $141.
