We made a trip to Toronto ( a 2 hour drive ) Friday 09/16, to tour a couple of museums, and lunched at a pub across from the Art Gallery of Ontario ( AGO ). They had an exhibit which Steve Martin, the comedian and actor was involved in putting together featuring one Canada's great artists, Lawren Harris of the Group of Seven. Just made it as Sunday is the last day of the exhibition. Then on to the Royal Museum of Ontario ( ROM ) to see the Dale Chihuly exhibit. Had one of these with lunch before the tour to chill out after downtown Toronto traffic. The Toronto International Film Festival is on at the same time so quite busy. We had thought to make it an over nighter but because of TIFF hotel rooms were 2 1/2 times the reg. rate and we didn't want to drop $500 for a room. Palm Belgian Ale with my steady Eddie 7548. Our lunch spot. Which is across the street from our first stop, the AGO. Leaving Toronto at 17:30 turned a 2 1/2 hr. run into a 3 1/2 hr. return trip.

My local bottle-o has their Octoberfest range in for 2016. Which one/s should I take home Mr.Jones?

You know, I really don't know if the "Oktoberfest" variety is any different from the regular Weissbier.
Munich is to the very South of Germany, whereas Hamburg is in the North. I never went to the Oktoberfest.

I'd go with the Erdinger if you can get a deal. Weissbier is a funny thing, not everyone likes it. It's quite rich. My local bottle-o has their Octoberfest range in for 2016. Which one/s should I take home Mr.Jones ?

Which one/s should I take home Mr.Jones ? They're offering all 7 for $40, so I'll sample them all. Will pick some up to drink with the footy finals over the next couple of weekends. Perhaps I'll post my thoughts here.

Alcohol here is incredibly expensive. There's a huge tax on it.

Yeah, and who would have thought that foreign beverages are more expensive? It seems Tristan has taken a liking to Weissbier Not really my taste (except when it's really hot outside), but then I don't really drink that much beer. And if I do, I like it to be very hoppy. Jever Pilsener"This is probably the most bitter of the Nothern German Pilsners and, for the beer buff, has a respectable 44 IBUs (International Bitterness Units). Aroma is resiny hops and booming malt leading to a beer with a typical pure white head and just the right amount of carbonation. Taste is of grassy, resiny hops held up well by a very supportive malt base. The label says 'Friesisch Herb' which is 'Fresh, dry' and this is so. (The word 'herb' can also mean 'bitter', which is also fine in this case.) Beer is bouncingly fresh, but dry from the high hop rate though still with plenty of mouthfeel. It continues through in the same way to a refreshing, lasting, hop-filled finish. Conclusion: Beautiful beer of character. Not for the faint of heart. Dry, bitter, fresh, moreish." From their website: "Jever beer comes from Jever. And Jever is located in Northern Germany, or more accurately Friesland. Because here in Friesland our water is really pure and soft, we can add a few more hops when we're brewing our beer to create the slightly Friesian bitter taste that distinguishes Jever Pilsener from other beers. Find out more about that here. Jever. No compromise!"

Yes Jonas, we pay a heck of a lot for our booze here. Alcohol taxes are probably some of the highest in the world. Added to this, it's a very small independent bottleshop that has a very wide range of international beers, but doesn't have a big buying power. Costs will be high, and so will prices. I guess that's the cross I must bear 😕

Found these variety packs in for Christmas at the Govt. store, Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO). I don't often see a variety of Belgian brew available so one came home with me. 6 for $20 so not unreasonable. I tried the Prior 8 watching Cleveland lose to the cubs last night. Dark, 8%, very nice. A few more for sampling. Two of the above were sacrificed in scientific experimentation. The IPA is the only variety from available from Lagunitas. Not as bitter as many and restrained on the hops, quite good. The Stout is temporarily on hold. The New Limburg Belgian Style Ale brewed about 1 1/2 hrs from me, comes in @ 7.1% and in typical Blond style went down as smooth as the Cleveland Indians did.
