I like to fly fish. I would like a suggestion for a diver watch to wear while fishing. Usually try eliminate any shiny parts that distract fish but I cannot go without a watch. So I believe I am looking for waterproof or resistance but not professional level, brushed finish or other less reflective finish, preferably mechanical, needs to be able to be a beater and it will definitely get wet. I have considered new skx 007 to insure water resistance as opposed to vintage. Perhaps there are better suggestions other than a diver. I do not know model numbers, or prices well right now ( until I research them) but I have seen many candidate types and styles for less than say $800.

Any G-shock, cheep, water proof and if you loose it no sweat. Or as a friend of mine does, K-mart special, even cheeper and he leaves it in the boat!

What type of fishing fresh or salt? Offshore?
G shock rangeman is nice, GW9400 (I think). My only complaint is it is a bit too big and no Moonphase/tide data. Does have sun rise/set info tho.
I would encourage you to go the digital route because A perfect fishing watch would have moonphase, barometer, sun rise/set data, tide data, light up, and storm alarm. For a while I was really into ABC watches and at that time this didn't exist in one watch.
Look at G Shock, Casio Protrek, and Suunto.

I gotta recommend one of these... Casio Pathfinder "Fishing Timer". Not a "diver" per se, but it would certainly check all of your boxes otherwise. I have one, but I am not sure how it works. It came in a lot with some other watches. Pretty nice beater watch, actually...

I mainly fish for trout, many places over the years. Have great time fishing for red fish mostly in the Gulf coast but just don't get to salt water fish much. I will definitely check out the Rangeman. Seems you must fish a bit yourself!

I admit, I have been reviewing Seiko for some time and really did not consider Casio when posting initially. Hats off to your knowledge and help!

All fish fresh and salt care much more about barometric pressure, moonphase, and tide cycle then they do what time it is. It's amazing how tuned in fish are to the moon and weather.

Once you get these watches programmed right, it can actually PREDICT when the fish are biting. From what I understand, it actually works!

Owned this one since new in 1991. First replacement battery fitted Feb 2013. Worn it on every dive I've made since. I had it on every day since 1991 except for about 13 months when it was lost in the back garden. When I found it again it had only lost a few minutes. It's been run over and chucked at various hard objects just to show how tough it really is. Ask Stefan the parts guru I chucked it at full strength at my fire place to show Stefans good lady how tough the watch was. I would not trust any mechanical vintage watch with my life while diving no matter how good they are meant to be. The saphire crystal is original and the only marks on it are from when I was a mechanic and welding with arc. I cannot scratch the crystal otherwise. These really are hard bastards.

In fact I'm nearly wearing it every day again and am considering selling my entire watch collection and just going back to the g-shock.

The OP didn't ask for a compass, barometer, light, storm alarm and sunset time...I think a nice automatic is something to behold on a quiet fishing day over a digital.

Can't beat a G-Shock for reliability and pure toughness. When trusting your life under water to a watch G-Shock all the way baby. I do wear other watches when diving but I always have my G-Shock on as well or at least the alarms set so I can hear a nice audio warning when it's time to come back to reality.
