I picked up my first King Seiko today. I have a couple of Vanacs but I don't really count them. It's a 4402-8000 from October '65 so has the gold KS shield medallion. Whew, I almost bid on that one twhp101! So glad I didn't get in a bidding dual with you.
I too am looking for the same model on and off. Be sure to put up some pictures when you get it as I can't wait to see what that dial turns out to be. I couldn't decide if it was clean or not? The shield logo on the back is by far the coolest one. Weird how they had a few different ones for the same watch

The one it's with has a Seiko 5 clasp but it looks beyond saving. Will have a Google of the correct type and have a look for one, but will be content for the time being with leather of some sort

I'm crossing fingers for immaculate dial under awful crystal! There's another that ends in 4 days. Are you looking at that one also?

If you are a stickler for authenticity, you could find a Seiko buckle and put it on just about any nice leather strap. The KS is pure class and really looks great on leather.

inboost thanks very much! I feel the same about Ricoh, I think for similar reasons. Japanese but much less well known. I like things a bit different too. On the subject of the orange dial Ricoh, by total fluke I also found another example of (I think) the same watch which is also arriving on Tuesday. Same design, same orange dial, Ricoh on the caseback and built by them (found other examples). This one has Lightning Bolt on the dial. Both of these orange watches were listed as running so fingers crossed! Very poor seller's photo below. I added the Ricoh so side by side comparison easier. They look like the same watch to me (dial logos apart), but hard to tell from the photos Now that is cool- Are you familiar with Lightning Bolt surfboards/surf wear? Pretty sure that is the logo: I thought they were long gone, but still around. lightningboltsurfusa.com/I used to be a big fan of 'Bolt flip flops. Still have an old LB shirt around somewhere. Let me know if you need to get rid of that one!

Check out this article - I bet I had a tee-shirt, shorts, or flip flops from just about any of them back in my teens. I lived near the ocean but never had the balance for surfing. I had a cool green Morey Boogie 136 Board though
We're going to have to duke it out for that Lightning Bolt Ricoh if twhp101 decides to pass it on, I'd love to have it too

There's another that ends in 4 days. Are you looking at that one also? I've probably got eyes on it and ten others, but I'm not sure which one you're talking about. There sure are a lot of these 4402-8000s available in both SGP and stainless. Like you I think the shield back medallion is important in the purchase (and so do the sellers ). I'm surprised at how many of these have damaged dials and still command high prices. Seems like a lot of them have water-tightness issues through the acrylic crystal. I'd bet most of those are from a cracked metal bezel which I can see sometimes (both others the seller masterfully hides it). I have a feeling those cannot be found anywhere as replacements. My understanding is that Seiko sold case bands complete with bezel only for these watches as replacement parts.

The photos were pretty poor, but Google translate on the listing says it's running, and the hands change position between the photos so I'm quietly confident. Thanks for the info on Lightning Bolt 😃 As for selling, I'll keep you (and inboost ) in mind!

This one is important to me for two reasons. First it will complete my 4006-700x reference set, the 13th and final dial that I was looking for for this sub-set. Second, it comes on an original jubilee in SS, one of the few original bell-matic bracelets I have not yet acquired, and the only missing one in this 700x sub-set. A two-fer! Woot

On it's way, sellers pic. In 1996? 97? his was in the catalog beside a Big Crown Pointer Date and that Moon Phase rectangle, I did end up buying. Price seemed right and timing wasn't bad either, which makes for a good reason to spend. There are better examples out there but at much higher prices...heck even those not as nice. Hoping the foggy pics aren't hiding anything too terrible.

Yet another good grab at 35€. All original 7223. Some TLC and we are good to go. Seller pic. Looks nice and decent there, but this has to to be my top 1 dirtiest watch so far... It's having a bath over night. I even cleaned the worst of it before the bath...

I bought another 4402-8000. This one is the latest of the three versions without Diashock on the dial. Gold medallion intact
