I'm a big fan of vintage Seiko's. I'm sorry to say that apart from the Stargate & maybe the MM, which is starting to grow on me the more I see of them, the modern stuff just doesn't do anything for me. I love the dive classics like the 6309 & 6105 but also really like some of the wackier designs which Seiko came up with in the '70s. The Sportsmatic, Sealion & Sea horse models also float my boat but I don't own any of those models yet so am hoping you guys will post some pics of yours.
I'll get us of to a start with my 3 oldest
First up is a 6105-8000 from June '68. Bought from a fellow WIS who told me that Jack at IWW relumed the hands & dial for him in a way that didn't look too 'new'. I think he's done a superb job that my poor photography skills can't really do justice to. The lume has a slight green tinge to it & glows like it's radioactive at night. One of the favourites in my collection.
Next is a 7625-8033 from December '68. Probably a bit small & plain for some tastes but I like it. Reminds me a lot of the Omega Seamaster dress watch from the same era but at around a tenth of the cost. Very deep engraving on the case-back for some reason. I can't remember the name of the non- Suwa mark on the dial so if someone can enlighten me, that would great.
Finally, my oldest watch & owned by me for over 20 years. Obviously, I've got a lot of history with this watch, been through the good & bad times with it as my only wearable watch for many years & until a few years ago I used to wear it in a very dusty woodworking workshop, working on cars & even on building sites ! It's on it's third crystal & has only been serviced once, so for a watch that was made in the 1940's & has led a very hard life, I think it's amazing that it's in the condition that it is. I'm fairly sure that this model was issued to the Royal Air Force during WW2 but don't think this one was as it lacks the case-back markings that I've seen on others. I'm not sure of the calibre of this one, so if anyone knows... Cheers
Pointless doing a caseback pic, it's totally plain so we'll have a look at it's guts instead
Looking forward to seeing your oldest watch even if it was made this century
Cheers
Dave
