This one should be coming soon. It is a 6458-6000 from 1982. Looks to be in great shape, is running, and comes on what I assume is a later 20mm Seiko fliplock bracelet.
A mid-size, vintage, JDM quartz diver has been one of my 'white whales' for the last year or so. Either a 6458 or a 7C43 would do. I did a victory lap right here on this thread when I was the only bidder on a nearly NOS 7C43-6010 late last year on YJ, but the seller never sent it. It is the first...and only...failure to follow through that I have ever experienced from a Japanese seller. Yahoo Japan refunded my money without any hassle, but I was irked that I did not get the watch. What's worse is that this kick-in-the-balls really fanned the flames of my desire to acquire one. There have certainly been other examples which have passed the auction block in the intervening months, but nearly all of them seemed to sell for more than I wanted to pay or were just not quite nice enough to satiate my residual longing for 'the one that got away'.
This watch is not quite as nice as the one I hooked and had wriggle off the line, but it is close enough. It was also significantly less expensive. The AWOL 7C43 was about $170, this one was $94. Both this watch and the one I never got still have blue caseback film intact, which is always a good sign.
I hope it scratches the itch. But, more than anything, I hope it shows up.

I saw that one, and almost pulled the trigger myself. And for the same reason...'why not'?
I just hope the damn thing works when I get it. Seller says it needs a battery We'll see what awaits when I pop it open.

These old quartz Seikos are pretty tough. If they haven't had water or battery acid leak inside them then they will usually fire up with a new battery. They are sometimes a bit "groggy" after being unused, though, and require a little running time to fully wake up.
I'd give that one about a 90% chance of firing up.

I had the same thought process, I wanted to solve some of the issues with skx007 - a little big, too thick, silver hands don’t match the hour indicies, and movement accuracy is not the best. So I also got a 6458. Case is more elegant, Kanji is a plus! If your looking for a bracelet I did some research and found that SNXS-series also have 19mm lugs and looks like they fit well in photos (have not bought one yet myself).

Good info. I also own an SKX013, which is just a smaller version of the SKX007. I even put a Kanji daywheel on it! Not sure why I even felt I needed one of these.
I thought this one was a 20mm (like the 013), but you are right...it is 19mm. Upon further inspection, it seems that this particular 6458 has a vintage "Bambi" brand jubilee bracelet on it now. I already have a few vintage watches from Japan that came on Bambi bracelets, and they are a high quality Japanese-made aftermarket replacement. If it is in good shape I will likely leave it on there.

Really like the older 2-piece chrono hands, plus a proof dial too!

Put a bid on this before I went to bed since it ended at 3:30am. Woke up to see I won. $91.00. A little more than I wanted to spend but negligible in the long run. Working, nice shape just dirty. Seller pics

$10.00
Why not?
Cleaned the case and polished the crystal. The bracelet is in the ultrasonic cleaner. Damn near flawless and still has inspection sticker on the case back. Made in 1983. Best $10 on a Seiko I ever spent 😆 Final example after a free fresh battery and gaskets courtesy of my watchmaker.

Had to have this cool cased Blue DX on the original bracelet. Never seen this case before. Runner, and should clean up nicely.
