Frosty
I bought this one last spring as a little plant in a cup from the garden store up the block from TNXJ and I planted it and put it outside in May.
Venus Flytraps can survive a light freezing and since it was MAY I thought I would be OK.
Well of course there was below freezing temps one night and I left it outside and over the next weeks all of the leaves turned black and died.
I just left it and threw it in the pile of pots with other dead shit and left it until it magically started to grow back.
And it grew back BIG.
I wish I would have taken pictures which is why I am doing this before all of my plants die or they take over the world.
We'll check back later in the season.

I've always found those carnivorous plants fascinating, but in the desert they are very short lived. They dry up in no time and I think I would need an enclosed vivarium with a permanent humidifier running to stand any chance...

Good going on the VFTs. I have grown carnivorous plants for decades, but never succeeded in keeping venus fly traps for longer than a season or two. What mix are you using? Any secrets to your success?
I use peat moss with perlite mixed in however it seems all of the perlite washes to the surface when it rains for the outside plants.

So just rake it all into a pile and stuff it back into the bean-bag chair it leaked out of in the first place

I buy perlite by the bale - only have to do that every few years. But yeah, it floats to the top and then washes out with heavy watering. I use pumice for C&S, which would probably work great for carnivores too, but it's kinda expensive. Sharp builders sand is often recommended for carnivorous plants too and I use that, but I'm just not successful long term with venus fly traps. Which is irritating since they are native to my state!
BTW @cd_god your sarracenia look great for beginning of the season! The deer got at mine over the winter, while the squirrels buried acorns in the planters, so it's a mess this spring. So it goes.

I stopped at Aldi's on the way home from work, not braggin'.
I picked up a cheap greenhouse since this weeks 80° F temps will be 50° F next week
Hopefully it works and all my shit doesn't freeze at nights.

I stopped at the garden store across the street from the Rolex store at lunch.
I picked this one up as it was cheap (plants are usually 25% more expensive at this store than the competition)
Hopefully it stays pink and it isn't some trick they pull like putting food coloring in the water or phukign with the soil Ph
It also better not get big cuz I don't like, nor have room for, big plants.

In aquatic plants, you bring out the pinks and reds by nitrogen starving them. Aloes and some succulents here also do the pink thing in the spring before going green in the summer - not sure the chemistry on that one. Food coloring... well that would be another way I suppose.

I picked up this pot and another plant on Friday when I bought my pink plant.
They used to have a few other witty slogan pots but they only had 3 to choose from this time and they had some Venus Flytraps that were taller but fewer leaves and knowing that each plant can only have up to 7 leaves I grabbed this one which was a full cup.
When I was repotting it there were 4 rhizomes (so 4 separate plants)
I was going to name it Lettuce but now that there are 4 new friends in the pot I think I will name it Drinking Buddies.

4 years or more ago I found some woman on Ebay who sold used clothing but for some reason also had a bunch of Venus Flytrap seeds for sale.
I was going to say 3 years ago but Corona outbreak was 3 years ago and I know it was way before then.
She said her father collected them from his plants.
I got them for a steal compared to what others were selling seeds for.
I managed to get most of them to germinate but most died shortly after.
I had to many plants and neglected watering them on a regular basis or my Sundews took over the pots.
4 year old Venus Flytraps should be BIG and flowering by now.
Anywho these survived by staying low and hiding I guess.
Not sure if I want to name this one "The Clearing" or "2 Roads" or "Spectre" in veneration of Big Fish, one of my favorite movies.
Fate VS destiny.
It's grown some in the last 2 weeks as the Sundews are getting sticky

Before I bought my first plant at TNJ we got a rack of succulents in and there was the coolest looking one I had ever seen.
I want to say it was a square cube looking succulent the was opening up.
I should have bought it cuz I haven't seen another one in the last 7 years
Lithops and similar are the closest I have found but they die faster than any other ones I have had it seems.
I have had over 25 and now only have 4 or 5 that made it.
I'm sure if this one is flowering or dying.

Every year or so lithops shed their skin and a new plant emerges or in my case always dies.
This one is splitting into 2 plants.

I picked this one yesterday when I stopped by to visit my friends at TNJ after work.
They had a rack with a few cool and rarely seen succulents but they were a little pricey so I could only buy 2.
It is a lot bigger than my other lithops.
I named it Fat Jay after a guy that used to work at TOJ who quit and moved to Denver.
It is about to shed it's skin. You can see the new plant inside.

The Grail
The cup is named the grail, not the current incarnation it it.
I originally had a Venus Flytrap in it but it is too small to keep the soil damp so it died.

This one is sort of like a lithops.
I picked this one up yesterday as well at TNJ.
I named it Fred.
My other 2 that died a couple of months ago

Buddha's Temple
I had a really nice one I bought from that seller on Ebay that I got a couple of my other plants from.
It was nice and straight up and no stragglers growing off of it and then it got involved with that white pussy.
Luckily I picked off a couple of stragglers as they formed before it died.
